I hope he doesn't break the record. I live maybe a 15 minute walk from Franklin Field, but I'm too lazy to go over and watch. If he breaks the record and I miss it, I'll be mad at myself for not seeing it. Wishing him bad luck.

Wow that's outrageous. Speaking from experience, warming up to be ready to race at 7:14 but actually racing at 8pm can really mess up your entire race. Especially going for a record where every hundredth of a second counts.

A medical emergency shut it down earlier so has know the race time all day.

The dude runs 5 miles a week. I don't think he's starting his warmup an hour before race time.

Don't you think he and his coach realized they were running behind prior to starting a warm-up? Do you think they fell 45 minutes behind suddenly without warning?

Yes, on time for such an event is wanted. But it is not like this is the first track meet he or his coach has ever experienced that fell behind the time schedule.

The hobby jogger roadies and excuse makers are out tonight! Other sports have legendary tales of champions playing sick, injured, hours after the death of a loved one and what does Track have? I didn’t win or get the record because it was too warm, too windy, the local restaurants serve big portions and use spices, the meet ran behind, my car ran out of gas, my tux was still at the cleaners, an old friend came to town…

Dude, the temps are dropping by the minute. It’s now ‘only’ in the upper 80’s, and the sun will be low when he starts. Windspeed is dropping a bit too.

Running 5 miles per week makes it harder to adapt to this. If you run 100 miles per week, staying active for another 40 minutes to stay warm is nothing. But an extra 40 minutes per here is a significant part of his total weekly volume.

Actually running less than 10 miles a week usually means you aren’t high maintenance so usually not effected by the crap the 100 mile a week running is life are.

I wonder if being on time could have made .03 of a difference??????????

I thought the delay was working in his favor. And then NB evidently switched up the schedule due to the delay. How much time notice on that did he get?

Some of you have got to be kidding, they actually moved his race around to get it closer to listed start time..One of these meets being less than a half hour off, is a miracle. They knew they were behind waaaay before he raced.

And Good Lord..a Rabbit in a HS National Champ type race..are you f'ing kidding me? and he even got what he wanted, fast fast fast..no traffic.. This is not a Diamond League event ,is it?

New Balance BEGGED Flatt to come to their meet. They offered him a rabbit in a national championship race. They promised him ideal conditions to break the record.
