Any record set with lights should be counted as a separate record. Why not count the sub 2 marathon as the WR? Same concept.
I didn't notice the lights but it changes everything. It's not a "separate" record, it DOESN'T COUNT AT ALL.
I don't care who disagrees - it's disputed and they have to live with that. You want undisputed records, stop with the little cheats.
The lights provide no physical benefit so how could they possibly change everything? I’ve asked this before, but does eliminating a fraction of a second variance in lap times make a difference? The lights cannot result in someone outrunning their ability.
I watched a similar type of 1500m runner, H. el G. only win one Olympic 1500m gold. H. el G. won because his main competitor from 2000 Olympics missed 2004 due mainly to an auto accident.
Does J.I. have any brothers good enough to pace J.I. through 1200m at W.C. sub-2:52? I don't believe J.I. can do it. No rabbits, no wave lights, no brother will be in 1500m final, no S. McSewyn. That slow 800m means game on for the other elite 1500m runners.
If Cheruiyot can win by setting a hard pace from the gun, why do you believe Jakob can’t do the same thing? He’s not the Olympic champion for nothing.
J.I. has three things working against him: 1) Going back to 1896, the modern Olympics. Fifteen meter gold medalists, all other things being equal has usually been a 1500m specialist with okay to good relative 800m speed or a legit 800/1500m guy. Not too many Paavo Nurmi 1500/5000 guys earning 1500m gold.
2) J.I. made a mistake. If he is in sh!t 800m condition, he never should have shown his competitors his kryptonite. Now we all know J.I.'s weakness.
3) J.I. told the world of his ambition to earn gold 1500m to Marathon. He is telling me J.I. is not training like a 1500m man. J.I. is not Cheruiyot. Cheruiyot summer of 2019 went to the front hard in 1500m final because he correctly believed he was superior to others. Why would Cheruiyot in summer of 2019 want to pass 1200m in 2:54 or slower with a fit T. Makhloufi in the field? J.I. is going to have to race hard from the gun in his 1500m semifinal to even make 1500m final. Remember, John Walker was about 4 seconds superior to Ivo van Damme, 1500m but Walker won 1500m Olympic final by an eyelash. Championship racing is different than these world record attempts.

They can outrun their no-lights ability. If they can't, what are the lights for? Waste money for fun?
Everything physical results from something mental. This further disrupts comparing times across eras, and undermines the legitimacy of records.
Again, I don't care who disagrees, who has a dislike bot set up, or whatever. It's disputed and that's that.
All pacing machines should be banned. No cars, motorcycles, vans, buggies, lights, drones, helicopters, etc. should be visible to the competitors. The rail road track TV camera, TV buggy camera, TV motorcycle camera, lead car TV camera should be banned.

It’s all about talent and fitness. Martins splits were perfection for his solo 3:57.95. Do you really believe he could have kept up with lights set for 3:55? Are there any LRers that have ran a PR using the lights? Good runners can push themselves to their limits and the only question is whether eliminating small variations in lap times makes a difference. I don’t think it does.
Not a big fan of the lights but don’t really care You can see he was just behind the lights pretty much the entire way. What an effort tho. That’s the first time I’ve ever seen even the slightest bit of discomfort on his face.
The custom alpha flys that Kipchoge wore (and were never released) did not pass and are banned due to stack height and 3 stacks of carbon fiber plates.
the shoes were by far the biggest factor in the difference of time from the 2:00:25 to the 1:59:43.
