I was trackside at the finish and the other girl was 3m back and just ran off of her own feet. It happens in the 400/800 every now and then. Ince played no part in it.

My above response was for the poster claiming interference by Ince in the 800.
Was Jon Gault commenting the meet? It sure sounded like him.
Yeah, that's what I thought she was going to do when she took the lead from the start. When I saw 70/71 at the quarter I started thinking this isn't good.

The girl who fell said she was changing lanes to try to get around Ince, but she said that she was really tired and tripped herself up. Ince had nothing to do with it.
Remember that the first lap split of the mile is actually for 409.344 meters. 70 for 409 meters is not actually off-pace for someone whose PR in the mile is 4:35.xx. Engelhardt’s 1500m this past weekend was faster, but in that race she didn’t have to do the work of leading — she was chasing a college + pro field which pulled her to a faster time. In this race, there wasn’t as much tactical room as it might seem from their prior PRs. If she had pushed the first two laps a bit harder, I think Whittaker would have gone with her. If she pushed the first two laps a lot harder & did all the work from the front, she probably would have blown up in the second half. Also, when Engelhardt and Whittaker ran New Balance Indoors, Engelhardt tried different tactics and still ended up 2nd to Whittaker. Honestly I think it is good that Engelhardt is trying out different racing tactics — she should become comfortable racing in a lot of different ways.
Good take on it. I didn't consider the extra 9 meters on the first lap. I think the second lap was a bit off pace though, would have to rewatch to verify. I was super impressed with her finish though, hanging with the 1:58 senior runner as a freshman. Incredible.
Check out the Junior High 1600. Adrian Cantu with a 4:39 as a 7th grader. His brother goes to Newbury Park.
Is Tyler Halvorsen also going to Newbury Park? They both train in the same club.
There were also 3 sub-4 1600 girls in the JH race.
Yeah, and there were a slew of pretty fast 7th graders in the race behind Cantu. I’m always curious about these NP feeder clubs. Do they take a NP-esque approach to training?

Yeah I actually filmed from the side 30m from the finish and Monesmith was never closer than 5 feet from Ince's rear foot, and her left leg seemed to lose strength completely, she couldn't push off it and after three stumbling steps she crashed to the track, about 8 meters from the line. Too bad she won't be back for next year, but clearly is a gutsy runner.
With Aaron Sahlman's Brooks mile, the top 4 Newbury Park runners' mile SB's add up to 15:59.87. For reference, the NCAA 4xMile record is 16:03. Pretty impressive.
Cruz Culpepper. His brother is going to Niwot next year too.
Apparently Cruz has a brother Levi who runs for Fairview. I’m starting to get under impression that sometimes, faster brothers go to a school with a better team.
Well then, if Rocco goes to Niwot, they will have an even better chance to win nationals in 2025.
