You figured that Sumner was this good, especially after his 45 high 400m, but this means that Flatt and Sumner have got to race this year at the 8. The fans demand, politely.
100% agree here. These kids don't care about the fans nor should they. If they opted to line up at Hayward Field in 2 weeks you think they'd sell out like Davis vs. Romero? Nope. Fans are irrelevant. I'm the biggest fan and I love seeing the results no matter who or where they race.

There is no reason they need to race each other. The fans are meaningless. The fans are irrelevant.
You need a sense of humor. What I'm saying is that these two could be the best high school 800m runners in American history, so they should settle it with a race on the track, with the American high school record as the likely prize, and consolation being that the second guy will probably also beat Granville's record.

Someone needs to shut Flatt up and Sumner is the person to do it
If Sumner would have been pulled the way that Flatt was, he would have gone under 1:46. Head-to-head I say that Sumner would beat Flatt like a drum in the 400 would narrowly beat him at 600 & 800. Actually I am hoping that they meet up in the 800 and Sumner destroys Flatt. It would be great to see.
At what point do we stop talking about the spikes helping in an 800? Great job to him proving you don’t need “super” spikes to help with anything. It wouldn’t matter anyway. 1:46.5 is still 1:46.5

The fans are relevant these days as NILs are now possible even for Old Miss and UGA athletes. Getting the national record is not meaningless either, but Flatt and Sumner are not done for the year. At the mile neither Sahlman nor Martin was getting to the Mile or 1500 records, so them meeting is irrelevant in the historical scheme of thing, but Flatt and Sumner are clearly relevant in terms of national records.

They don’t necessarily need to race each other to get the national record. And the fans are still irrelevant either way.

What bizarre point are you trying to make? I like to see the best compete but guess I’m irrelevant. Fury and Wilder fought so boxing fans are relevant but not us.

You are comparing professional fighters to high school kids. Please try to grasp the notion that they are different. I should not have to walk you through this.

Right. Is my understanding correct that you would prefer that they run in separate pro races so we ban compare their 6th place times? I’ll take head to head competition between the best, without a pacer, anytime.

This is not about me. That is the difference between you and I. It is all about what YOU want. I am not wired that way.
It’s easy to talk about how insane the 4 sub 4 miles this season are for US HS boys running, but I think these two are the most impressive of the bunch
Relatively speaking Sumner and Flatt’s 800 performances are more impressive than the miles in my opinion. Granville’s record hasn’t been close to being touched for years, and it is now under threat by 2 guys. Crazy year
