No it's not.
And let me preface this by saying both of these performances and young athletes are amazing - we should celebrate both of them.
First of all your comment about the wind is utter horsesh-t. The women's 200m was +0.8 and the men's 100m -0.2. 18mph is 8 meters per second. You obviously weren't there so I don't know why you would even say that. The reality was, the conditions were actually not bad at all apart from that one crossing rain shower that didn't affect the mile. When you want to talk about wind there is simply no chance in the world anyone runs 43.60 for 400m with a severely compromising wind. Either way the two events before and after the mile give an indication of the ballpark of where the wind was. It was a total non factor.
Martins performance is just better. Doesn't unequivocally mean he's a better runner but his performance is just better. Running sub 3.58 solo in a meaningless high school meet where you are the best runner by a substantial margin is far superior to running 3.56 in one of the premier mile races in the world where the Olympic champion, the world champion, the US champion and a host of the worlds best milers are there to build the race for you. That's no knock on Sahlman - he did what he needed to and delivered a very good performance. But Martins is a great performance under the circumstances and it's better. To those who can't understand why it's actually a pointless exercise bothering to explain it any further but you're just wrong. Period.
