Brazier had the capability to get that high school record. He ran 1:47 mid with a major negative split. Had he run a set up pro race, it was there for the taking. But to compare him at 19 with a high schooler at 19 is unfair in that Brazier at A and M had a lot of very fast teammates and he had very experienced top level 400/800m coaching. Flatt will see major drops next year in all likelihood unless the Ole Miss coaching is too distance-based for him. He will also likely be an 800/1500 guy next year because that's what the program does. Don't forget too that Brazier plateaued for a few years after 19 before finally really improving a lot. By 20, Flatt may be as fast or faster as Brazier at the same age. But you just don't know when you take a guy who was one of six guys on his track team last year and was coached by the English teacher, and you put him up with national class athletes at Ole Miss with Van Hoy.
