These posts are why you lose so much credibility. One runner beats another and even then you refuse to acknowledge that it can happen. Think about how silly we would sound if Tuohy beats a runner but we say that there is no way it can happen again.
huh? what did i miss? didnt tuohy not run a 4:06 1500m before hand? bush ran 800m but its not like she ran a 2:04 ... she didnt .. she just ran to score points and finished 7th out of 8, it was like a workout
i acknowledge the fact that bush has a kick but why cant you acknowledge the fact that we are talking about 5000m here and not 800m, she will be dropped by the leaders in a 15:20 pace before she can even have a chance to outkick them, the finals simply isnt going to be won in 15:50 like ACCs
and no bush does not have the best kick in a 5000m, its abby nichols (we will see katelyn's kick in regionals hopefully)
but who cares if we dont believe you, just because youre in a sam bush bandwagon doesnt mean we have to be on it
I am not sure why you think Bush will beat Nichols. A page back you stated that the race will be in the 15:25-15:40 range. Now you're saying closer to 15:25. Honestly, I believe that Nichols, Chelangat, and Tuohy will all push the pace and will not allow for the race to be slow. Bush can't hang with that trio in a fast race. The only hope that Sam will have is if the race is a slow race and she can use some of her 800-1500 speed to close. Even then, Nichols is no slouch over 1500 and went 4:14 just a few weeks ago. Bush is only about 1 second faster than Nichols for a 1500 PR.
The other hope that Bush will have to beat Nichols is if Nichols is not recovered enough from the 10K. Isn't there about 48 hours between the 10K and the 5K? I thought I remember that from past years but am not sure. If so, there is no reason to believe that Nichols won't be recovered. Also, even though Nichols has the fastest 10K in the country this year, there is no guarantee that she is going to go for the 5/10 double. She may only do the 5 or she may only do the 10. Sam's best bet, OTOH, will be the 1500.
I am not discounting Bush, she is a fine runner albeit a bit inconsistent. Nichols has pretty much been Ms. Consistency since last XC season. She had a bit of a rocky outdoor '21 track season but has been much better this year. Quite frankly, I'll be surprised if Bush is in the top 5 in the 5K. I am not even convinced that she will be top 10. What makes you so sure that Bush will be top 5 over the likes of Lauren Gregory, Jenna Magness, Parker Valby, Adva Cohen, or any of the other 20 athletes that have a faster time this season? Let's just see if Bush even toes the starting line of the 5 in Eugene. I'm not convinced that she will.
Did I miss something here? I don’t think the declarations for Nationals have been made yet. Why would Bush run the 5k? I would think she will be in the 1500 along with Vess who has run an even faster time than her - a 4:12. Tuohy to focus on the 5k where she has multiple strategies to win the race. She has fastest PR in both 1500 and 5k - gives her several options for a race plan. Way too much focus on 800 times. We really just don’t know what Tuohy could do in an 800 right now. With a 4:06 1500? Probably at least a 2:05 which puts her right in range with some others.
also, whoever started this thread put sam bush in a bad light rather than good, shes very talented and fast indeed but everyone here is just being realistic and you cannot force your better 800m speed = 5k national title narrative
and you even accused katelyn of being a bad teammate when shes very happy of everyone's success
Not saying this is 100% true but I think Tuohy was content with letting Bush win. If you watch the race, She motioned to Bush twice once before the bell and once right after the bell to go in front of her. She didn’t care. They like each other lmao

I commented on this in another thread. This was training. If she really wanted the 5000 should would not have gone out hard in the 1500 and led the whole way when she could have just cruised and out kicked everyone in the field.
Yep. I was concerned that a non-NCST runner would have a strong race and she would be trying to chase down a 15:30s runner after the fast 1500. But 15:50 and a teammate winning worked well. If it was Mario Party, then it would be personal.
im a tuohy fan but im more concerned of abby nichols (if she goes to run the 5000m only) than taylor roe or mercy chelangat or sam bush .. heck i feel like jenna magness will finish higher than bush
mercy indeed has improved and looks so stronger than indoors but i dont think she can outkick tuohy or nichols, if she runs the 10000 or even if she dont
taylor roe can hang in a fast race but has no kick that we know of
sam bush has a kick but cannot hang on a fast pace
nichols has both, she can hang on a fast pace and can kick
katelyn can hang on a fast pace and has an improved kick
whoever wins depends on the type of race, and of course who even peaks on time for nationals
its going to be an exciting one because theres so many strong runners this year
Mercy is going to be stiff competition. I think her ability to take it out fast, keep it fast, and finish strong are on par with Touhy's.
So will Abby Nichols. The Pac 12 5000 on Sunday was a tactical race. Nichols got into perfect position and just sat while 3 different leaders surged and faded. She took it in the last hundred or so meters and looked fresh afterwards. Like a fox.
If Taylor Roe focuses on the 5000, she will be a force as always. She is also not timid about taking charge of a slow race.
Another consideration is Sam Bush. I thought of something since the last time I posted on this. What if Saturday was a mental breakthrough for Sam Bush? She has been just behind Touhy at lot lately, and she has pretty much the exact same training. Touhy said at indoors "if you don't think you can win, then you've lost the race before it's even started". What if Sam Bush hasn't thought of herself as being able to win in a race against Touhy before now? Sam said in her interview that when she watched Touhy in the 1500 run that 4:06, she thought "I train with her, so maybe I could get close to that too". Maybe something clicked there. If so, confidence and a belief that she should go for the win could unleash a new level of competition in Sam Bush. She has the training. This may be way off base, but if there is truth to this it could make things interesting. I just hope if she runs the 5K she doesn't sit on Touhy's shoulder and get paced through the whole race and outkick her in the last 300 meters because that would be nasty.
Factor in other women (Covert, Gregory, etc.) who are right there and could have a great day at nationals, and this is by no means a done deal for Touhy. She is definitely a front runner, but she is going to have to both run fast and race smart to win this.

Someone please direct me to the 5000m video, free online!

I agree with most of this, and although Covert is having a nice year, I don't see her being with the top 4-5. She might do better in the 10K. I repeat, I think there is a reason they added a meet to the schedule so Bush could qualify in the 1500.
semi is your person but although Tuohy finished 2nd (or perhaps because of this) he/she has not posted it.
Semi does a great job on YT. I don't think she has the 5000m video.. Sounded like it wasn't available to where the are in the world. She said she got the 1500n from someone kind...
If anyone kind is reading this, please put it up or google drive it. Thx!
