This is an awesome post!! He’s a special talent and, from all the non track info, a genuinely nice kid. St. Alberts grade school and Archbishop Wood should be proud.
I think Rupp’s 13:37 is more top ten than top 5. For example. Lukacs Verzbicas’ 8:29.46 two mile is superior. I also think of the five performances you listed, Rupp’s time is the one most likely to be broken this year.
Just off the top of my head his performance is not as good as Chapa 28:32, Ryun, Webb, Hobbs Kessler 3:34 and Rupp 13:37. I am also factoring in the advanced shoes. Again Gary Martin is amazing and he may run 3:55 in HS. Either way he is a super talent.

Then 13:37 and 8:29 are remarkably similar performances.
Uesere, time will tell and actual is always better than projected. Today, however, the actually great Gary Martin just ran the fastest time ever run in a high school only mile race. That’s probably about million races since Ryun’s previous high school only best. Wow!
This is a good rivalry with Newbury Park boys. East Coast v West Coast, training with a superteam and competing with pros v just going for it at the league meet, Youtube channel vs no youtube channel
14 US high schoolers have now broken 4:00 in the mile but only five have done it in a HS-only competition and none of those have gone as fast as Gary Martin, who ran 3:57.98 at his conference meet today. MB: The legend of GAR...
Oh yeah. I forgot to say that shortly after the 3:57 happened I combined two threads on the matter into 1 and changed the title to make it more descriptive.

Was at the race. Confirming no pacers. It was an off and on rainy, muggy day (and no wind) in Springfield, PA and Gary just grabbed the race by the balls and finally got his sub-4:00.
Also confirming that he is a polite, super nice kid. The world could use more Gary Martins.
Jesus christ this is an insane performance! Sahlman's 1500 last week was a tad better (55 close), but if they get in the same race together, I'm not sure who'd win. I really hope the top milers get in a post-season meet together. Especially if there's a pacer that can take them through in 1:59, we could have multiple sub-4s.

I distinctly remember first learning about Gary when he briefly sat down with the CITIUS crew post the most recent NB nationals on the CITIUS pod which was recorded there (winners from the races came by straight from the track to answer a few questions, talk about their futures, etc). Trayvon Bromell was there in an appearance capacity due to his NB sponsorship and was also on the pod. So you have Trayvon giving his two cents and the various high schoolers cycling in and out throughout the episode and then Gary comes on and is markedly more eloquent and engaging and mature than any of the previous teenagers (none of whom were bad to listen to by any means). Trayvon could not get enough, he must have said on the episode how impressed he was by Gary at least 3 times ("he's going places," "I like his vibe, man," etc.)
