You love to see it
3:57.98 for 1 mile
No special meet needed, just go do it at the league meet.
After coming up so close a few times now (and leading the whole way), Gary ran a 3:57.98 at the PCL Championship meet (his league meet), beating the rest of the field by 19 seconds!! He ran it solo a week after he just soloed an 8:41 at the Henderson Invitational in wind and rain and said he felt good after!!
Get this kid in the Pre Classic mile. Sub him in for Centro.
I just saw he put this up on Instagram. Unreal. He’s been so fun to watch locally. Good for him!
They should add Gary to pre classic field. What a run my god.
That’s sick! At the philly Catholic league meet. No pacers, no elite train to ride, it’s humid here in the philly area today too. He’s different.
Ryunesque
I saw this, a time I thought he could run with pacing, as I posted last week, like others who thought the same. But Solo? Holy Moly.
The future of American MD is bright. Thinking with Hocker/Teare and some studs coming up in the ranks, we’re going to have a bunch of big things happen (sub-3:30s and 7:30s, medals at 15/5 at a high rate).
Someone get this kid in the pre classic!! I need to see Martin v Sahlman almost as much as I need Flatt vs Sumner!
Interesting Martin note: didn’t run until Freshman Year spring. That differs from some of the recent phenoms who were studs in youth Track.
Everything considered this has to be the greatest high school distance performance of all time. I mean a 3:57 at a freaking league meet with the next guy 4:17! Unreal
pulling up he all-time high school list.......
this appears that it\s the fastest high school only mile, ever?
looking quickly at the all-time high school mile list
it looks like Gary's might be the fastest high school only mile, ever
Jim Ryun on dirt in his state meet
I think it would be hard to beat the German Fernandez solo 4:00/8:32 solo double at his state meet too. This certainly stands out amid all the orchestrated sub-4 attempts though.
I assume this was a 1600?
Cole Hocker ran a 3:57 mile with a running start in the 4xmile. This dude did it completely solo in a Hs atmosphere. Hopefully someone in the field for pre drops out so they can put him in!
