It’s simply rare to have 3 8th graders run what L/L/A Sahlman ran in 8th grade
If it's rare to have 3 8th graders that fast, how rare is it to have 10? Their top 10 runners were all youth stars with times well under 5 minute equivalent. They are an incredible high school team, but they were also an incredible team before they showed up at Newbury Park. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't fathom another team in the country who has half as many sub 5:00 8th graders on their team. Does anyone know of one?

That’s good to have 4 in one class under 5:00 with the fastest at 4:55. In one year, NP had 4 under 4:46, with another at 4:55 and the fastest at 4:20 for 1500. That’s REALLY good.
As a side, looks like the Wyzata 8th graders ran those times as part of the high school team.
And when those 8th graders were seniors Wayzata didn’t even make state in CC just because they were in a tough section, and they finished only 3rd at NXR, made NXN with an at-large, and were the 3rd MN team at NXN.
Then next year they had a better team. They won state/NXR and were the top team from MN at NXN
They have to go into the high school transfer portal.
I see a couple of posts were removed. Was there speculation around the circumstances of this rumored departure?
Probably. I don't have the slightest about Brosnan's continued status at NP but I do know that LR is full of Brosnan haters and gossip mongers who would like nothing better than his downfall.
the speculation is interesting. i have seen big time high school coaches lose their jobs just because they seem to lose perspective of the purpose of their job, and the school board just doesn't really value track and field domination. a high level coach can certainly come up with a list of demands and show arrogance around the district that will ruffle feathers of many, many people.
this is a guy who probably misses A LOT of classroom time to travel with his team.

Yeah, he’s such a victim. I can’t imagine why anyone would dislike him. Hopefully sarcasm is obvious.

Another thing to note is that like I said Carpenter is the only one in that group who became “nationally elite”, and the other 3 of those Wayzata guys who ran sub-5 in 8th grade were only their 5th,6th and 7th runners at NXR.

The main point is, find a coach who wouldn’t be bullish on their chances nationally with 5 eighth graders coming in who have run faster than 4:46 for 1600. Doesn’t guarantee success, but i’d imagine most coaches would be happy to have that show up at the first XC practice.

I think we need to start accepting that the bar has moved for MS too. 5:00 isn’t that fast. If you have some modicum of talent and train as an 8th grader you’ll likely break 5. Tons if 8th graders break 5 each year. Heck, multiple 5th graders have this year. World record mile for a 10 year old is 4:46.

Well, looks like the next wave is coming. Based on history of where they get their recruits, the next batch has already run in 8th grade for 1600:
Micah Dickran 4:45
Adrian Cantu 4:48
Noah Sloan 4:49
Maxwell Roe 4:56
Gabriel Bernardino 4:56
Eli Zasloff 4:59
Probably others as well. Not a bad hand to be dealt.
Do you know for certain that they're all headed to NP? Out of curiosity I looked up Dickran on athletic net. Already this season he's run 54.55, 2:04.78, 4:45.16, 10:37.87. Not bad for an 8th grader.
Bernardino is going to NPHS according to instagram. Dickran follows Brosnan, Lex/Leo Young and C Sahlman on there, so it makes the odds even higher that he’s going there.
Sloan and Cantu have older brothers on the team. Cantu will be an 8th grader. Chances are they’ll go there when they are freshmen
