Yeah, those are OK times for sophomores. They might be competitive in their league with those kinda kids and maybe have an outside shot at making CIF finals, but no chance to qualify for state.

Not quite the same sophomore times as:

Lex’s 8:43

Leo’s 4:07

Aaron’s 4:10

Colin’s 4:15 as a frosh.

Combine that with the fact he'll never get the depth of raw talent that landed on his doorstep with the Young and Sahlman brothers and realistically there's nowhere to go but down after the class of '23 graduates.

Currently there are 6 sophomores and 1 freshman boy on the track distance squad. That's pretty telling that seeds are not being planted for the future.

So does Brosnan end up coaching in college, a pro team/club, or will he do something else outside of running?

To be sure, he's done a phenomenal job and this is not a knock against him. It's rare that we fully take advantage of opportunity that comes our way in life, but he certainly has done just that.

Of course not. However, Doshi should/could be sub 8:50 by the time he’s a senior. How many kids from the following great schools have gone sub 8:50 (or even sub 9)?

Great Oaks

Loyola

San Clemente

Jesuit

Clovis North

i think that from this list only one school (Jesuit) has a sub 8:50 school record.

Of course NP will not have 3 sub 8:40 guys in 2023. He probably will not have one. Having a sub 8:50 guy is still pretty amazing. A lot of top schools would like to have that.

I think you mean no sub 8:40 guys after 2023. 2023 is next year and the Young Bros. & A. Sahlman will be seniors, as will Hector Martinez & Aaron Cantu. In 2024 Doshi will be a senior.

However, just like elsewhere incoming talent varies from year to year. Compared to many other schools I don't think NP has a reputation as an athletic powerhouse, and getting kids out for sports, esp. those perceived as "minor" such as XC, is not easy. If he remains at NP over time perhaps more good middle school runners will opt for NP rather than one of the other area high schools, but that remains to be seen.
