This is terrible news about Bekele, I just went to my window and let out a great howl of anguish. But the King will be back for glory, make no mistake.

He's 39 and shown nothing to back your claim. I don't think I'm alone in hoping that he just hangs it up. He already will not approach retirement gracefully.
Amsterdam a few years ago was it. We got spare tire Bekele dropping out at mile 20 or so. Bad look

This is a poor troll attempt. Bekele is the GOAT and the promised one who will defeat Father Time once and for all. Enjoy your day my friend.

Good to have you back, Banana Bread. Genuinely missed you on here, you gave these boards some life.
Here's to Bekele taking all the dr*gs and turning the scythe on Father Time

Indeed, King Bekele is like Jesus, like the Phoenix. He’ll rise from the ashes, from the depths of the abyss, as the underdog who’ll come growling back to conquer the world; or perhaps just quietly DNS or DNF again. Whoever knows?

Hard disagree. The greats earn the right to carry on until the bitter end. Just like the great golfers and tennis players, let them keep going for as long as they want to. It's not like a string of poor marathons can do anything to take away Bekele's gold medals. I'd still love him to do one more World XC just for the hell of it
PS. I'm combining two threads. Apparently Jonathan started one before this thread but he doesn't know how to write a catch headline so this one caught one.
PPS. It's racist to say my boy now, right? The post above sounds awkard but God forbid I express affection for one of my favorite runners in an un PC way.
Wtf. No "my boy" is not racist. If you call a black person "boy" that is. But you knew that.

This was beyond predictable. How can Bekele still be in the GOAT conversation with the rash of DNS and DNFs late in his career? I understand his track success blows Kipchoge out of the water, but his marathon career was one blip on the radar.
Consistency has to count for something.
Lebron is the GOAT because he didn't gamble his life away and get forced to take a year away from basketball and contribute to the death of his father. He simply puts up 27 a game on incredible efficiency. MJ finished as an owner player for the WIzards.
Kipchoge hasn't lost a marathon since Kimetto set a WR, Bekele hasn't finished a race in two years
And yet again, another post from the peanut gallery.
Once you're deemed "The G.O.A.T" at any point in your career it isn't taken away from you. It's a borrowed acronym that is passed on to others. To be at any time in your career "The G.O.A.T" is a club you will be always be a member of, and a conversation you will always be part of.
