Don’t get me wrong, I love Fisher. He’s my favorite, but do you think he’s really going to be at the Chep, Barega, Kiplimo, Aregawi, or yes, even Ahmed level this summer ? I hope so, but I remain doubtful. BU times are just too suspect.
Hes already at that level. 5th at the Olympics, dont think he can quite beat them yet, but no doubt he will be in it with 300 to go at World's. This is of course someone doesnt blitz a 12:40.
Wow hes on a pretty serious drug cocktail, plus the funny shoes.12.53 indoors and a sub 4 minute mile in the latter stages of a 5000 meter race!Impossible for a normal human being.Only doper laboratory experiments do that.
All three Bowerman 5ks this weekend were BIG negative splits and very successful in doing so. Do we think that Jerry has specifically trained his athletes to thrive off this type of pacing setup? Would they do just as well in races that play out differently? OR has some advanced Nike research found that in general it is most advantageous to negative split when looking for a fast 5k time, regardless of the athlete? In the past, most record setting distance races have been paced a lot more evenly than this. Will record attempts begin to trend more towards a big negative split? I wonder if Nike and BTC have figured something out before anyone else has.
No, even pacing will always be the best strategy when going for a PR.
I think he's getting them to play with their tactics still as we're so early in the season. It's hard to believe because of how fast they've run but it's still early season, he won't want them burning themselves out with complete all-out times/efforts rn. Come World Champs (or at least around that time), they'll run more evenly, and quicker still I reckon. I didn't see the Men's 5000m replay yet but just from watching GDS recently, I'm sure she won't be leaving things to a big close in the future - they were likely told to try cut it down to see what they could do, but still experimenting
Surprising amount of negativity on this thread. Yes, these records were due a revision in the new shoe era, but 12:53 is a beast of a time anyway. You can't compare it to any times pre-2019 because of the shoe tech, but look at it just within its era (2019-22): how many people have even come close to it? None outside of this race.
Fisher should be really confident going into World's, he has a legit shot at a medal

Absolutely. Spot on.
Only caveat: the 5k, like the mile, is pretty much a phenomenon of US indoor racing these days. They are hardly ever run indoors in Europe or elsewhere.
We sorely need to see one or more of the top 5k finishers at BU tonight run the 3k at USAs, make top-2, then race against the world's best at Worlds in Serbia. Emmanuel Bor said he will definitely run USAs. Grant sure sounds like he wants to. Hope he talks Jerry into it.
If that happens and the 2 Americans are competitive for top-3 at World's, then we'll know these Boston times are legit.

True. And I'd love to see Scott go for indoor World's, it would make sense for him. He's older than Fisher and needs to take his chances to represent his country while at his peak. Ingebrigtsen is highly likely to run the 3k in Belgrade so there's going to be an undisputed world class talent in the field. Time for the BTC boys to get in the game

So sick of the clowns on here whining about drugs and shoes.

Yes, I wish athletes would stop using them - especially the drugs.
Nice results and records for Fisher and Ahmed indeed.
But guess who mixes it up for the win at worlds while the other guy fades to 10th or is injured and not even racing worlds? Will be down voted now but will age well. Enjoy it while indoors lasts.
Is he now officially the '2nd American Record Holder'! The fact that Legat was born & raised in Kenyan and competed for them in the Olympics is very Impressive! But it's simply not he same thing or should it matter??? (Yes he did go to school here) but he did not go through the Full School System in the USA the same as Fisher - but should that matter as well??? Legat is absolutely an Amazing Man and incredible Athlete but some would say that 'he only 'Unofficially' owns that 'American' record'. There's no point in calling it an "American Record" if what it "Means to be American" is entirely fluid and openly-flexible, so the argument goes ?!? Or is Legat only ethnically Kenyan??? Personally, I don't really care, he's just a great guy and an amazing runner - The topic of Ethnicity and how it merges into National Identity in some countries and minds is very debatable. However, what Fisher achieved last night was truly the race of his life and now has proved he's an amazing force to be reckoned with. When Hunter blew by him years ago in that famous scholastic 2 mile, most thought Fisher was going to be a 2nd tier runner - Well.... Guess What!!!!!

I believe that Fisher is a guy who has all the right qualities for long-term success. Like many but not all top runners, he appears to be extremely level-headed, have outstanding control of both his mind and body, extremely good discipline regarding his training, racing strategy, and, hopefully, injury prevention. He is blessed not only physically, and with mental toughness, but also with outstanding intelligence and emotional maturity, having the temperament to submit to his coaches guidance with the patience to let his career develop over the long-term.
I, however, am very impatient and excited to see what he does in the coming outdoor season and beyond.
