With covid here to stay, this sounds awful. But at least you're admitting that you're good with a forever approach. And, of course, this is vague enough that it's at the whim of whomever is in charge in your area, which is super cool.

It's not vague. States have set numbers where they will increase or decrease restrictions.

I'm also not good with doing this forever, but I'm totally fine with doing it right now. I think it's likely that cases and deaths will plummet by this summer and remain very low. Public health officials constantly reassess to maximize public benefit, even when the public is ignorant to the work they do and the expertise they possess.

That's what they said last year and then Delta. At this point I'm assuming a new variant every 6 months and because of that, I'm done. I'm vaccinated which is as far as we as humans can take it without this continuous cycle of restrictions, then easing them, then back. People may think that's not disruptive but it certainly is, and not at all what those of us responsible enough to get the vaccine deserve.

He said 99%+, which means not 100% because nothing is. The chances of dying from covid post-vaccination are lower than a car crash. So either you are fighting for those unvaxxed you hate so much or you have lost the ability to accept some level of risk. Personally I'm done with the unvaxxed if that's the reason we still treat covid like the plague. I'm done with the topsy turvy ups and downs. I'm done wondering whether I can go on vacation or if policies are going to change at my destination at any time. I'm done sending my kids to school with masks. I'm done having to feel like I shouldn't feel comfortable with human interaction. I'm done with all the theater and hypocrisy that comes from those who are 'serious about covid'. It's absurd at this point in it all.

I didn't say everyone learned it. I'm saying we have experts in the field who are best equipped to make decisions. They go to school for several years to learn best practices for disease mitigation. Sometimes this involves changing course as new information is discovered or people flat out refuse to follow your guidelines. The CDC's job is kind of like negotiating with a 5 year old. They could recommend that you wear 2 masks and that would help reduce transmission by X%, but if they do, people might throw a fit and not where any masks and that will increase transmission by X%.

Also, your state is following CDC guidelines. Once transmission is in the low or medium zones you can take your mask off provided that you are vaccinated. Here are your exact numbers:

Excess death data is basically useless for determining how many deaths are actually attributable to COVID. They have no idea what those excess deaths are they just post a graph and ignorant people look at it and attribute 100% of it to COVID.

Even the most conservative data models have calculated between 350K and 500K excess deaths each of the last 2 years. This methodology has been around a long time and really isn't disputed. So, what is your hypothesis for the cause of these excess deaths?
