I own a pair of casual shoes, a pair of dress shoes, and a pair of boots, all of which were purchased 3-5 years ago, and all of which I expect to last another 3-5 years at least (and much longer for the boots). The poor people in my family laugh at me for buying footwear that they consider to be frivolously expensive. Meanwhile, they go through multiple pairs of shoes per year. While I was visiting for Thanksgiving, the whole family went out to buy new winter boots because the ones they'd bought a year prior had fallen apart, while I just dusted off the same pair of boots that I've been wearing for the last 5 years.
Can someone explain the logic that a $500 pair of boots that will likely last two decades (and can be resoled and repaired as needed) is "more expensive" than buying a new cheap glued together pair of $30 boots every year over the same time period?
