If he leaves Provo and joins a professional team, who should he train with? Should he go for the 10k first and team up with Joe Klecker at On Running? Is he good enough to link up with Rupp and run with our best marathoner?

Skechers and Chez.
I would love to see him get coached by Smith and train with Rupp, but I would also really like to see him get coached by Chris Fox. Hehir and Bennie may not be his caliber, but they’re experienced marathoners and maybe a better starting point than a world-class guy like Rupp. No matter what, I hope he goes straight to the marathon rather than spending another 5 years on the track to run, at best, 27:10 and still be uncompetitive on the world stage. I think if he goes straight to the marathon he’ll run 2:06 in 5 years, and be much more competitive.

2:06 is definitely great for an american, but it's not competitive on the world stage anymore, at least not more than 27:10.

What do you think his form will get him long term? Of course he can process the pain of the marathon, but does does he have the efficiency for it? Seems like he is going to have fix the arm swing and not Parker Stinson sprint the entire thing
Hoka. 2:14 at Boston and NYC for a number of years.
You people are funny that think he can go anywhere near 2:06.
If Conner Mantz becomes just another 2:14 guy I will cry myself to sleep
Rupp is a 2:06 guy and has a Bronze medal at the Olympics, a World Major Marathon win, and two runner ups in a major. Mantz seems like the type of guy to thrive the worse the conditions get, so wouldnt shock me if he was in the mix in unpaced hilly courses like NYC. He definitely wont run 2:02 in one of those Berlin drag races, but doesnt mean that he cant be competitive on the world stage.
They could pay him in crypto and NFT turds💩 and save a lot of money that way

Anything can happen in the olympic marathon. Course differences and weather spice it up.

Nobody at tinman could keep up with him for anything beyond 400s
Officialdb: Reed Fisher just ran a good marathon.
I think the tattoo issue pointed out by another poster above may be the bigger issue here. Although I don't think Manz would need to get inked to join Tinman Elite.
Chris Fox , Ritz (On), and Smith would all be good choices if he wants to stay with the marathon right away like BYU alumni C Young, McMillan did. Maybe Ray Treacy, train with Ben True? Any chance he stays with Eyestone?

2:14 is not good at all for a pro. The school record holder in the 3200 at my highschool ran a 2:09 in his first professional marathon over two decades ago- in old new balances. Mantz is on a totally different level
Just from a fan perspective I'd like to see him stay with Ed for a while. I think he trains with Ward some already. He could live higher up (Park City) and do most easy runs and many long runs at that altitude, joining Eyestone's group in Provo for certain workouts.
As far as shoe brands, I would personally only really disapprove of On. They pay you NOT to wear their product. I don't know if you're required to race in Nike specifically or if asics, Saucony, adidas, etc. are allowed. A great commentary on the shoes if the company ownership and management disapprove of their stuff that strongly!
At any rate:
This is just a fan's point of view. I don't have any dog in his shoe fight.
