Who would win a 600m race between Michael Johnson, Jeremy Wariner, Sebastian Coe and Wilson Kipketer? I say it would be close between MJ and Coe with Wariner and kipketer a bit behind.

Juantorena would beat them all!
Coe was only a 46-47 second guy, there are/were several elite 800m runners who were/are better over 600m than him.
Lee Evans
Johnny Gray.
Mark Everett - either win of dnf
2nd vote for Juantorena...He'd play with the field for a quarter then blow 'em all out... Coe would agree...
Kipketer, people, Kipketer.

Only because he didn't race too many 400's. Coe could run through the bell in 49 low and keep going so he could probably have run 45 mid to 45 low.
I'd love to have seen MJ and Kip do a race over 600m from the curved start, just to see the differences in stature!
I think Wariner would beat them both though.
Wariner would win easily. Kipketer might be able to get back in shape for a race, but the other guys are too old.
I sorta like the Everett addition.
AJ is a solid pick as well.
The race might shape-up like this:
Race run with a one turn stagger.
400m boys are out good, through 200m in 22-high with the 800m guys hanging back just a bit in 23-low.
This race would probably have 2 groups: one through the 400m in 46 (MJ, Wariner and AJ) with Gray, Coe, Everett and Kipketer in 47.
Wariner and MJ fade coming off the last turn, AJ holds a slight lead as the 800m boys start chasing them down (or not slowing as much). I see Coe followed by Everett catching big AJ at about 560 meters with Coe winning barely holding off Everett.
1 Coe in 1:11.33
2 Everett in 1:11.39
3 AJ in 1:11.87
4 Kipketer in 1:12.01
5 Gray in 1:12.09
6 Wariner in 1:12.21
7 MJ in 1:14.55 (having nearly jogged the last 50m after getting passed)
Wariner - Easy winner since he is at the top of his game. His 'A' game is still in play.
Kipketer - Still has game, but not his 'A' game anymore. His wicket is on the downslide.
Johnson - Not exactly in running shape anymore. Mr. Agent has put on about 10 kilos since Atlanta.
Seb Coe (my favorite runner of all-time) - Even though he still looks like he did in 1980, he would unfortunately would be a ways back. The mofo is 49-years-old and more than twice the age of Wariner.
Honourable mention:
Steve Ovett was a better head-to-head 800 meter runner than Coe, but nowadays would have to stop for a pint in the middle of a 600 meter race. Guess what? I'd be on the stump right next to him. He's a great guy.
Did I tell you about my dog going to the vet yesterday? Bloody arse ran right in front of a lorry. Almost bought the whole enchilada. And my wife...
I could never get any money out of Mr. Ovett. Let's say he has "British teeth".
Dude, we are not talking about today but each at their peak. Come-on haven't you ever done this before!
Fury Ovett or Hairless Ovett? Which one?

No, I've never done this before. Are you sure it won't hurt? You can only put it in for a second. I don't want to get pregnant. And you can't tell anybody, not even your best friend.
boys- learn yer history...Juantorena would have smoked them ALL....let me repeat...GOLD IN 400/800, at the same damn Oly games....
He would win EASILY in a 600, over all of the greats mentioned...

except that Coe has run 2 seconds faster at 800m as has Kipketer and Gray a second faster and MJ more than a second faster at 400m and Wariner faster at 400m.
AJ is an impressive SOB but he has the slowest PR's in the field. So you might want to check that out before you run your mouth about learning history. AJ's claim is like Everett, he was good at both races which I why I have him winning until 560 meters and hanging on for 3rd.

El Caballo's victory was soft. He only won because the 400m and 800m powerhouses were boycotting the '76 Olympics. The boycotting countries were:
Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Kenya, Zambia, Nigeria, Gambia, Sudan, Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, Algeria, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Central African Republic, Gabon, Chad, Togo, Niger, Congo, Mauritius, Upper Volta and Malawi.
Against the studs from Upper Volta, Gabon, and Madagascar, Alberto wouldn't of stood a chance on the podium. They'd call him "El Caballo Oscilante", ("The Rocking Horse") because his mom would have to rock his crying ass to sleep.
Of course neither Coe, nor Ovett ever participated in boycotted olympics...and some of the countries you mentioned were quite the powerhouses...
44 point in the quarter- against the USA....800- against all of those juggernauts- including egypt
Coe himself was in awe of the cuban...
Jackie Ziegle would win hands down.
