They were celebrating the team title, which I am sure they knew they had locked up. The team had not won the MVC since 1999. Also, Basten is only recently at this level. He has never been close to this good in xc before this year.

Bradley had two 29:50 guys in the spring. Hard to believe your numbers.
Those 29:50 guys lost to Fogg in the same race by 30+ seconds. Sorry to give you the bad news, but 29:50 isn't good anymore. They weren't even top 95 in the West Region.
In other words, those Bradley guys were 40+ spots away from even qualifying for regionals, and two Drake All-Americans are celebrating their victory over them.

This was what I was thinking watching that video, clearly the conference title was a big deal for the program.
But hey, besides that: this is division I sports, not intramural flag football. You don't like it, run faster.
To settle your angry heads on this debate the only thing we wanted to get out of the race was the team title. Neither of us cared who took the individual title and we knew we were 1,2,3 at the finish so the title seemed pretty locked up. We’ve waited a long time to get a team title so it was pretty special to make it happen on the day after so many years of it not working out. The people complaining about us celebrating are probably the same ones who complain about the sport being boring and nobody ever showing any personality. You just can’t win (unless you’re us)

Foggy, you continue to overdeliver. Let's see some real fireworks in Florida!
Fog,
Why even respond to armchair losers? Your race to win however you wanted to within the rules. Congrats to your team.
Calling bs on "lack of resources" for the other schools. Its xc for gosh sake. How much resource do you need to be competitive in this sport?
This is great for a drake team that lacks resources in comparison to conference members. Loyola and Bradley proudly overly sponsors cross country. The larger state schools have double the funding and squad list.
I’m pretty sure Adam Fogg ran a few steps backwards so he could check on the progress off Drake’s third place finisher and celebrate with him as he was coming down the final straight. If you look back at the third place runner he also has his arms outstretched to acknowledge their 1-2-3, which is usually considered a special achievement. Pure joy at all their hard training paying off. Good stuff. I wouldn’t have thought anyone would be so petty as to begrudge them a little joy and celebration. It wasn’t done in anyone’s face or with any mean intent. Why can’t you just let them be happy? Nobody’s feeling should be hurt by this.

Who cares if it was planned...what was over the top about it? No other team was even in sight so it couldn't be taunting lol...just a couple guys who's hard work paid off...what a stick in the mud.
'Who is hard work paid off...'?
Interesting.
One poster was incorrect about Drake having more funding but you are just as incorrect about them having 1/2. They have a few less scholarships than their competition. They have about the same athletic budget as their state school competitors.
There’s nothing wrong with this video but you know if it were two African or Black guys Rojo would be posting about how it’s in poor taste, cocky, unsportsmanlike and shouldn’t be allowed in the sport.

I can’t believe I’m the first to say I find this downright douchey, and living half a mile from Drake, I would definitely prefer to be cheering for them. Maybe Basten’s little whirlybird move was “genuine,” but it looked awkward and ridiculous, and Fogg answering by running backward for a few strides was clearly shameless showboating.
Like, if you’re Adam Fogg, a 22 year old from Australia who transferred to a mid-major NCAA team at 20 after running 3:40 for 1500, and you’re obviously the class of the conference, would you really feel cool running backward to prove how easily you dominated the field? I think it’s unsportsmanlike gloating, and will seem fairly stupid if and when he faces competition his own size later this fall.
Agree. These guys are idiots. Save it for drama club. They'll be in the 70s at nationals.
If you want the sport to become more popular you need people who show emotion. This was great to see.
Actually you're likely Incorrect. You don't have the means to fact check anything unless you're from Drake. My statement is from past experiences with Drake and former coaching staff statements. This thread is actually filled with haters about a team celebration.

^^^^This!
This was an important event for a team that finally had the depth to achieve their goals. They seem to have a pretty tight knit group of mid and long distance talent.
Let the kid's enjoy their victory.
This finish is everything I love about fall and cross country. There are a lot of knowledgeable running fans in DSM, and people are definitely starting to notice runners like Isaac and Fogg. They are fun to watch.
But hey, thanks John Wesley, for reminding us all what running is up against in this country. BTW if you live a half mile from the Blue Oval you are probably my neighbor. Please move.
I don't think it's showboating if the other teams still can't even see them!

Howdy, neighbor. Not gonna move, but I’d be down to run together and find some middle ground on this inconsequential online debate.
Dang, i don't have that much energy at the end of an easy run.
I’ve got now problem with a showboating celebration, but that was cringe. They couldn’t have made runners look more dorky if they tried.
