The Olive Garden is his “go to,” before and after races and he’s a medical internist so this gives added value, in principle, to that place.

Jordan Tropf quote: “Olive Garden to-go was clutch,” Tropf said. “The create-your-own-pasta with grilled chicken and meat sauce was perfect each night before races, and then chocolate milk and a Subway foot-long (chicken, cheese, honey mustard, and lettuce) with two cookies to replenish after Baltimore and Boston.”
That’s a lots of carbs, sodium and fat. This guy’s diet will catch up to him eventually.

It’s obvious he’s eating this food and saying these things about it because he’s sponsored by them
you could do a lot worse than olive garden i guess. nobody should be putting much stock in what this guy or other elites eat either before races or in general. in the chris solinsky sub 27 story on this website he describes how he ate a ton of ice cream the night before he ran 26:59. oliver hoare made the olympic final in the 1500 and he's a well-known fast food aficionado.

Tropf is also quite heavy ( for a runner) at 6ft/170, so he needs quite a bit more fuel, presumably, compared to many elite jockey weight marathon runners who are usually not much over 5 feet tall and 100 pounds.
Listen, there's a reason this guy is not a sub-2:25 guy. He's a big shuffler. Strong as an ox, all slow-twitch. Eats like a typical obese American.

Yes but running a 2:25:00 Marathon is not typical for “a typical obese American” -
I still think what the guy is doing is admirable because he works 60 to 80 hours a week as a medical internist and still finds the time to train and run to 2:25 to 230 for the marathon which is quite impressive

Fair enough, but there is nothing impressive abut his diet.
Ok Karen

it's fairly obvious he ONLY ate subway and olive garden during this four-day stretch as a way to make some extra $$$. How dumb are you people?
Tropf is an orthopedics resident FYI, not an internist. Knowing orthopods they would consider being called an internist an insult!
Yeah, I'll take the guy who impresses with his marathon performance over the guy who impresses with his diet.
Olive Garden and Subway are basically just food you could make for yourself at home. When you're running 3 marathons on 3 days in a row, you go through a ton of calories and need to eat lots of food. I'm not sure what there is to criticize about that. His gels probably aren't vegan, either.

Or they're just places you can find everywhere so if you like consistency before a race there will almost always be a Subway nearby....

The all-protein diet is the way to go.
I mean if you’re hopping to 3 cities in 3 days and want consistency in your pre race meal I guess this is smart. Even if they are frozen meals basically
my only regret when I had him on the pod this week was not asking him specifically about what he ate after the race.
I knew he ate whatever based on this profile of him.

"Who needs running coaches, training programs, and set mileage goals? Not Jordan. His diet? Whatever. Pizza? Beer? Fine."
I think going with a chain makes a lot of sense. You know 100% what you are going to get. When my brother was in his prime, he always ate at Subway and tried to get his double espressos before races from Starbucks as you knew what you were getting.
Anyone know if he's doing Cleveland tomorrow? He said he might run it.
If you missed the pod with him on it, here it is:
