I like Hocker, but I do think it’s frustrating how often the conversation turns to how low his mileage was in high school, and how all his miles were “quality.”
Freak talents can get away with this in high school. But all the high school fanboys are going to be really bummed when they realize his low mileage was just keeping his talent under the radar instead of “allowing it to develop” like everyone seems to be preaching.
Hell, he can sit around and be really proud that he got 6th place off of a third of the lifetime work that the winner put in, but I’d much rather see someone at that level be a little pissed off that their coaches didn’t hold them to a higher level. No one gets a trophy for “best finish off the least training.”
