Pre will be a big test for him.
We heard he was super fit all year and he has underperformed. Is he overestimating his fitness or will he deliver (which means the American record) at Pre?
Did rojo steal your login today?
The pre classic record is 3:47.3
Centro missing the American record in this race will mean he didn’t deliver? Please.
If he runs under 3:48 in what has always been a massive field, that will be a huge success. Under 3:49 is fine.

He will have the pacing lights this time around. I expect a 3:42.70 to 3:43 flat. Afterwards he will retire as the GOAT of the mile

I was behind Centro in the line at Storrs Smokehouse last weekend, and boy did he take his dear time to order...
In the end he went for the St. Louis-Style Pork Ribs, collard greens and something he insisted to be named cole slow. It looked like regular coleslaw, so I'm not sure what he meant by that.

That went past me the first time. I reread it slowly and it went past me again
Took me about 3 minutes and 50 seconds to get it

Also, why so much hate for the guy? He seems like a confident, intelligent, charismatic guy. We need more of that in this sport. Also, he rarely if ever makes excuses for poor performances. In fact, I distinctly remember him leaving a presser a little bit early, explicitly stating that he didn't want to stand there and make excuses.
As much as guys like Galen Rupp are amazing, they're kinda boring. Centro brings an edge to the sport we need, his career medal count backs it up, and he doesn't shy away from getting his a$$ kicked.
Centro is universally beloved on LRC in comparison to Rupp.
Yeah, I don’t get it either. It’s like the bros on here will happily drop their undies and heterosexuality for Centro, and more recently, Hocker at the drop of a hat. Centro is okay, but the adoration is disproportionate.
Agreed

I mean he underperformed in one race...The most important one, but his 3:35 smoking Heyward and others, second at USAs, 3:49.2 with bad pacing for only 1K were good races. Hard to deny someone is super-fit if they can hold on for a 3:49.2 going out in 55-mid. He just couldn't handle the rounds running too wide in the semis and looking out of gas.
Either a 3:48 or faster, or being within a second of the win would be a good performance here (if it's a slow race)

Again. Cheruiyot and Ingebrigtsen. No slow race. Not in the Olympics, not in Eugene. Many here thought or hoped for a slow race in Tokyo. But as long as these two runs ... you ought to have learned that by now. Centrowitz at least 2-3 sec behind the winner, even if he runs sub 3.48.
Idk why everyone limits him to 3:48ish.
He ran 3:49.2 training through and with worse pacing than he can expect here.
Pacing should help a second under optimal conditions, resting easily another 1-1.5, at least.
He's good for 3:46 if everything works right.

Wishful thinking from a true patriot. I don´t see Centro go sub 13 and he is competing with guys who can go 12:40 or faster.
Do you really think he should have chance against Cheptegei, Barega, Gebrhiwet, Kiplimo, Mo Ahmed or Jakob who easily outsprinted Tim and beat Hocker "the Shocker" with more than 3 seconds in the 1500m final in Tokyo?
To THOUGHTSLEADER:
I will get shocked if Centro will come closer than 3 seconds to Tim and Jakob in the Bowerman Mile.
He has a gold medal. But is still a mediocre performer in his field. I still find it hard to believe no one ran past him for the gold medal he won. But yet he has it.

Don't count him out. He may have a Tattoo You performance left in him.

Never doubt the Champ. Didn't perform like he wanted in Tokyo, looking to make amends and take scalps in his homecoming to Eugene!
He really has no choice at this point in his career not to run as fast as he can at every available opportunity, and this is the perfect opportunity! No pressure (only from himself), amazing field, his "Home" track, and is in the best shape of his life.
Anything less than the American Record will be a disappointment. Not with regard to his career, just not being able to put a stranglehold on being the greatest American Miler EVER! Either way, Centro has had an amazing career, and may not be done yet if he moves up to 5000m.
Olympic Champion and American Record Holder sound pretty cool.
More related to if pacing sucks or it’s windy/crappy weather. Tim has run slow at Pre before. Yes if conditions allow it it should be fast. Poster said 3 seconds gap…even in a fast race 3:45-6 it’s a disappointing result if Centro doesn’t run 3:48. The setup will be much better than Amos/Thompson doing Tim Sein impressions.
