My three year old got Covid recently. Had a bad cough, fever for a couple days, but it really was similar to a half-dozen other times he’s gotten sick.
He’d played with a friend’s kids a few days before, so I called them, and the parents ABSOLUTELY PANICKED.
Based on the data, I don't see much reason to be overly concerned about Covid in kids. Nobody likes seeing their child in discomfort, but the risk of serious complications is extremely low. Curious how other parents here see things.
1) I am really sorry that your 3-year-old got COVID. I would be concerned if my children were still too young to be vaccinated.
2) He is LIKELY to be fine, especially since it appears he has at least recovered from the initial illness.
3) The parents of your kid are right to have panicked though. At that point their kid hadn't yet gotten sick and recovered. ALSO (and you should talk to your kid's doctor if you haven't already), there are potential bad long-term side effects of getting COVID...damage to the heart and lungs chief among them. There is also the possibility of mental health issues (this is NOT an extremely low possibility). Not enough data yet to say if a 3-year-old is less likely to have these bad side effects or not. Finally, viruses are very mysterious, and some rear their ugly heads years, even decades later (see Chicken Pox and Shingles). We do not yet know what might happen 20 years down the road for people who were infected.
