Tears her meniscus in training, still gonna line up then get surgery.

hey i think i know how these threads go! something something representing jamaica grumble grumble.
after seeing this place bash her i looked up her PRs and her steeple time is very good so it's not like she's completely undeserving to go. injuries suck.
Sorry to hear it. I can't see Instagram posts, so can someone tell me if this is one of these deals where she has a bonus in her contract for running in the Olympics, but doesn't get one just for making the team if she doesn't actually start the race?
She really has not been racing well at all this year

Possible.
Also possible that she just doesn’t want to miss the opportunity to be an Olympian. Hard to blame her either way.

She isn't going for the steeplechase, she hasn't run a steeple in years. She is going for the 1500, her qualifying time was 4:20 at the Jamaican Championships where her only competitor ran 5:02. She somehow is ranked 43rd in the world at 1500 meters with a 4:05 personal best from 6 years ago and has qualified on rank.
Not completely undeserving to go?
Sorry to see she's injured. She has run some very good steeples and 1500s in the past.
Tough news but it was hard to imagine her getting out the heats let alone the semis based on form of the last 2 years. At least she gets to run and plenty of global championship opportunities coming up

Yes, I don't wish injury on anyone and hope she recovers well, however, here is her 1500 progression. Point to which one of these you are referring to as some "very good" 1500s. I see zero world class times here and no justification for "Olympian" status. The top 8 women in the OT 1500 finals ran faster than she has ever run in her life and that one time she did it was 6 years ago. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Why has she abandoned the steeple?

Don't know the actual reason, I just remember her posting on her IG a couple years ago that she was a 1500 runner now. Something about Joe thinking she had more potential there? Not really sure why, but I am sure about her saying that. Just too lazy to look through 2 - 3 years of her IG posts to find it.
She seems very nice, her teammates love her. Kate Grace speaks well of her, I just don't believe her 4:05 PR, 4:20 at her countries trials and #43 rank are deserving of being an Olympian, for any country.
i guess i was just thinking relative to some of the truly hobby-level runners who end up going strictly for representation purposes. like don't countries get a wildcard entry in x number of track events? i think i remember there was an 800 meter runner woman who ran like 2:40 in the heats a few cycles ago. i was just pointing out that aisha is not at that level. i will say it is weird how for olympics purposes countries will play fast and loose with nationality designations.
When’s the divorce announcement breaking?
You're right, she's no slouch and despite the "backdoor" and "turncoat" slurs found aplenty on here, she has demonstrated bonafide world class ability. She has won against good talent at the Commonwealth Games, finished well against US b-listers at the Pan Ams, and was a finalist in Rio, where she finished well ahead of last. Pretty damn good for a Missouri Valley girl. To Ray's point, that form is clearly in the past and hasn't currently resurfaced. It's probably a bit unusual to US Americans to see someone formerly competitive at that top level now coasting in on what are simply legacy performances and displaying seemingly self-centered motivations. That doesn't seem at all out-of-step with Team Boss culture. Yet that's how you can extend a career in something you love doing and it doesn't keep someone else who is clearly more deserving out.
Oh and celebrating someone else's divorce is possibly the most Letsrun thing ever.
i don't get the divorce references? in the post about the meniscus tear she shouts out will and the "leers" so where are people getting this from?

I assumed "Archy" was referring to a divorce from Team Boss, which will never happen. Her and Coburn are too buddy buddy and she has nowhere else to go with her Puma contract. Where else does a 31 year old , 6 years past peak 1500 meter performance of 4:05 go, coming off a 4:20 at championships and with a new torn meniscus? Steeple isn't something you can just drop for 3 years and jump back into shape for on the world stage and it's something you will most likely never do again after meniscus surgery. Surgery is usually the last resort and the surgery itself introduces new problems long term. She has already run the fastest she will ever run and I think she knows that and that's why she will line up for her 1500 heat as her Olympic farewell. The media will eat it up and say how brave she is and there will be a montage of her winning The Commonwealth Games. Lots of slow motion, dramatic music and the gun goes off for Aisha. I'm prepping my tissues from now.
Seems silly to hurt yourself before the Olympics. Tear your meniscus after instead.

I give Bosshard a lot of credit. Praught is the only one in his group running poorly right now - hard to do. But he miscalculated with the 1500 thing. Rumor mongers would say that she (Praught) was in fact looking too good in the steeple for Coburn's liking.
Jamaica has probably never had an Olympic marathoner, so she has options for 2024 and beyond.
I'm not the conspiracy theory type but I gotta admit, I like this one. It's got romance, intrigue, betrayal, of friendships... Yeah, good stuff. Who's going to write the tell all book?
Just out of curiosity, has anyone ran on a torn meniscus? Also has anyone heeled it without having surgery?
I suspect I may have a minor torn meniscus right now, but will see the doctor on Wednesday to confirmm. I have medial knee pain and sometimes my knee makes a cracking sound. However, I have no swelling. I can run easy for a couple minutes on without pain, but running downhill and running turns seem to aggravate the injury. I can imagine running a steeplechase a torn meniscus to be especially painful with the turns of the track and jumping over the barriers. With all the falls and stumbles that frequently occur during this event, one wrong move could make this injury much worse.
