She has no business representing the US in anything. She's an idiot piece of loudmouth trash who broke the rules and is rightfully banned from competing for us. She smoked pot and got busted DURING THE OLYMPIC TRIALS. Just how stupid do you have to be do do that???
It sounds like she is the perfect candidate to represent the US.

…you guys do realize that she was going to become THE star of the Olympics and send Track and Field to new heights, right? If you want her to be banned from competing this year you are basically saying you don’t care about your sport gaining a new following and becoming more popular to the masses.
90% of America doesn’t give two s***s about T&F unless it’s during the Olympics. I’m going to go ahead and say any of you who are happy with this ban are not true fans of the sport and are content to watch it die.
I don't support her cavalier response to the doping rules.
You sound like you'd dope American athletes to improve reputation.
I really don't care if track and field returned to being an amateur sport.
As a hobby jogger, you shouldn't either.
(I already had an international track career)
So you’re saying we should support track athletes that smoke pot even if it’s a banned substance? Sounds like you probably smoke pot. She broke a rule so she should sit! No argument. But there could be an argument of whether marijuana should be a banned drug moving forward.
Reality is that wacky backy is very safe and significantly safer than alcohol.
Would she banned for having a glass of wine?
So she sparked up a J and kicked back and had a few tokes. Big deal!
More athletes should be able to enjoy a smoke occasionally as it could be good for the sport and help them with muscle / joint pain etc. Not to mention benefit their mental health.
Being former military stationed in The Netherlands some time ago, we got tested EVERY Monday. My platoon was counseled monthly on this and everyone knew the consequences if they popped hot. Well, in my 4 years stationed there, we had 9 US Military pop hot. I actually had 1 in my platoon(to my surprise). He actually thought I would be easy on him since it was only THC. Lost one rank(so much for being a NCO), 60 days extra duty, and 60 days restricted duty. His wife actually called me up "bitching" about the punishment, mainly the loss of rank=loss of money and benefits. Army values=Loyalty, Duty, Honor, Respect, Selfless-Service, Integrity, and Personal Courage. I told her it was better than what the Commander initially wanted=loss of two ranks. Only you are responsible for your actions and must live with the consequences of your train of thought and actions.
No, it's not. WADA rules do not prohibit her from competing in the Olympics because her suspension will be over by then. WADA rules invalidate her results at the Trials, but it's USATF's rule that the first three at the Trials are the team that means she can't compete.
Now, I agree that this is not really a discretionary issue. Normally I think that "rules are rules" is an argument for a moral midget who hasn't developed adult-level reasoning, but the problem in this case is that sport is a zero-sum game. Under the rules, Prandini is now entitled to represent the US in Tokyo. If she declines her spot, we have to go down the list. It's not like USATF can just disregard the rules because smoking weed is victimless; disregarding the rules means taking away someone else's spot. That's actually why I like Rojo's approach. If every qualified athlete who ran at the Trials were to turn down the spot, then USATF would have an open spot to fill at its own discretion. Unless all those athletes agree to do so, though, I don't think it's fair to them to try to bend the rules.
This isn't really accurate either. It was the US that pushed for THC to be on the WADA list, largely because of our own war on drugs. The Europeans didn't want to include it.

No I along with Letsrun are basically saying she broke the rules so she should be banned.
The US letting an athlete slide because of the reasons you stated would make the US look really bad and like they don’t respect their own rules.
But, USATF already doesn't respect their own rules. FFS, they were going to let Shelby run despite being under a finalized banned for an actual PED until USOPC intervened.
Many probably don't support the rule that she broke, but in a grander scale support the enforcement of the rule. Smart people understand, that in many cases, we shouldn't just enforce the rules we like because that quickly descends into chaos.
Shouldn’t be a rule. No difference than having a glass of wine with dinner in my eyes. She’s obviously not abusing a drug like marijuana to be at the level she is.
I don’t see how you turn a blind eye though and let her compete after it got out in public though. They should have thrown it under the rug and moved on as weird as that sounds.
