That is the case. It is incredibly dumb, however. A performance should not be disqualified/invalidated unless it occurred illegally. This is especially true if the intent of the Trials is to send the 3 best athletes in the fairest possible way. Richardson was the class of the 100m field. Her weed use is something that under the rules should be sanctioned but once she serves that ban. Right now, the technicality of disqualifying her is keeping the US from sending its best three athletes. To be clear, it is not WADA doing it, it is the USATF's adherence to the Top 3*. If Richardson serves her 30-day ban, there's really no argument that she is not worthy of representing Team USA in the 100 meters besides well technically she can't.
