Anyone that has lived anywhere on the California coast knows that people are never going to be leaving "in droves."
It has, quiet frankly, the best weather in the world.

Don't incentivise homelessness...Don't make it easy for them to not work, lay around and do drugs and booze and panhandle.
Every human being should be self supporting or at least try . Don't enable their bad behavior.
We had very little of this until recently because we had vagrancy laws, no camping in public areas.
Conservatives believe that people should try to become better people and that means WORK..
The small percentage that are mentally ill should be institutionalized. The rest should be told to leave town or be jailed. If these spineless mayors had courage the problem could be ended tomorrow.

NYC has 10X the homeless population that SF does but half as many people living on the streets. Shelters work. It's hard to find work, hold down a job, and get your life back on track when you are living in a tent.
We are far too compassionate to secede from the United States of America. Your suggestion is un-American. Without California's allowance money, many of you would starve.

Dude...You are clueless..
They ARE leaving CA in droves.
I follow the real estate market and the Southwest where I live is being overrun with Californians moving here. Lots of them are middle class folks.

Depends on the definition of "in droves" I guess. Looks like net 180k people left the state in 2020.
You just sound jealous you cannot afford to live in beautiful Coastal California ;)

Please secede. California as an independent country. I like it. 40 Million people. You don't need 49 other states dragging you down. Your state flag has the words "California Republic". Get out of the USA now.
We’ll take our chances.
"Conservatives believe that people should try to become better people and that means WORK.."
Yes it does. This why GOP voters go to the polls and vote for Reduced Business Regulations, Lower Taxes and Increased National Security.
What do Democrat "men" vote for? "free" daycare, "free" UBI, an increase in their minimum wage, "free" reparations, "free" loan pay off, "free" college, 'free' healthcare .......
This is what happens when you graduate from college with a gender studies degree and 100K of debt.
You become another democrat LOW INCOME voter with your hand out. Eventually, you are a homeless democrat voter with our hand out. But I am splitting hairs.
"Voters with household incomes of less than $50,000 in 2019 broke for Biden by 55 to 43 percent — a 12 point margin, compared to 8 four years ago."

Don't feed me that BS...These people don't apply for jobs. I was homeless once for over 3 months, you find ANY type of work, save, get a room, save, get an apt., save, get a car, get a better job, save, buy a house..I retired at 53.....
The homeless issue started when the ACLU sued so it became VERY difficult to institutionalize people with serious mental health issues.
The Left is fine with people living like stray dogs because they see it as a human rights issue. "Yeah look how FREE these people are!"
The Right is OK with it too because there is no way they want to deal with the cost of housing this many crazy people.
Since both sides get what they want, the issue is never addressed.
The answer is both very expensive and will mean that more people are cared for in an institution. The only people that "win" in that scenario are business owners that no longer have to deal with these people, the public at large, and the people suffering from serious mental disorders that now live in the heat and cold and are forced to beg or steal to survive, but hey... they're "free".

"If Republicans took over the governing of S.F., what would be their solution to the homeless problem?"
1. Prosecute Petty Crime
2. Don't allow homeless tents where people do business
3. Enforce existing laws regarding vagrancy and loitering
4. Stop funding the homelessness problem
(Those cities with the MOST homeless funding have the most homelessness)
It's good to see some actual policy but what about solving the problem of homelessness? At least two or three of those things can be condensed into one policy: stopping homeless people living in SF.
All these policies would do would mean the homeless population shifts to places outside of Rep. control. You'd them blame the Dems for increasing homelessness in those areas. And the con trick will continue.

Exactly, and how many of the homeless people in SF are actually from SF? If SF and other big west coast cities started clearing out homeless encampments where would those people go?
They all want to move to conservative paradises like Oneonta, Alabama or Brandon, Mississippi.

You are not listening. This is how you solve the homeless problem. Stop incentivizing homelessness. It’s that simple.
Incentivizing homelessness is the why there is a homeless problem. It’s that simple.
There will always be some base level of homelessness. But we are talking about the recent massive ramp up in numbers, not the baseline from decades past.

I think that's a ridiculous thing to say. You think people see incentives to be homeless? Surely the greatest incentive is a secure and safe place to live? So they could have a job and somewhere to live tomorrow but they prefer to live out in the cold with drug addicts and violence because they occasionally get a free meal?
Democrats are disgusting pieces of trash.
Big cities in Texas are flourishing such as Austin and Houston because Texas enables basic human rights without excessive govt control. People want out of the excessively controlled areas such as New York, any major LA city, any city or area that is defunding the police or too liberal. People don't want to deal with BS.
like most texas cities, Austin and Houston outsourced their education to other states. Well educated people move in from other states for jobs that are subsided by tax dollars. These revenues don't go to infrastructure or education. Texas is a failed state waiting to happen.
Plus the weather is crappy outside of 2 months a year. It's not well situated for the new climate reality.
And whataburger isn't that good

Except conservative states fair worse in every statistical category.
Your state, West Virginia, has the exodus rate in the nation.
Please start a thread about that.
On the LIB news where I live in San Diego....today...they were discussing that the state is paying $60K per year for each tent to exist in SF. The average rent is $4200/month for a 2 BR apartment. Sssoo....you can do that math. The government is setting up established homeless campgrounds, showers , feeding them 3 times a day, bathrooms are set up, etc. and of course with government contracts they are WAY overpaying for those services (as they do everything) so who knows what political kickbacks are happening there. Also reported by this fine Democratic channel, Governor Newsomealliini is paying triple the value for hotels to permanently house homeless people. I'm willing to bet maintenance will be quadruple the typical costs. I'm not sure CA can be saved at this point in time, but over these next couple of years it sure will be interesting to watch the Dems "eat their own" as the masses get more irritated.
