If you have your runners close in a 53 second last 400m, the rest should take care of itself.
Triggered much?
That was meant for “frustrated coac”
What you call “short-sighted” I call a race. Heaven forbid more people want to be in the front.
Centro could've beat Hocker if he edged over to Lane 4 - it's common practice.
Did the Chelimo fan club get larger or smaller yesterday....
Who's complaining ?
Paul Chelimo
"Will someone please think of the children!"
frustrated coach you made me laugh out loud at the thought of you saying this with a straight face.

Also not an American. And no he didn’t do sh*t for the US Army. It’s a joke he “represented” them at one point. Go back to Kenya
+1
Agreed. Does not represent the US.

Pushed them all the way out to lane 4... blatantly obvious.
It's called "Big Boy" racing. Totally, legal, and VERY smart! It's up to the chasing runner(s) to adjust. Someone should have cut back to the inside off the turn or close to it. Had they cut back to the inside Chelimo would have to counter back (if he could) and that would've put him in a position where he would either have to run away or cut them off and thus a protest would be more applicable (impeding another competitor).
It's not like BTC boys aren't going to Tokyo...Relax!

God, you guys are babies. He was toying with those guys. If he's DQd, I'm not going to watch another track race all year after the mens 1500.
Was it bush league and a dick move? Yes.
But how is it different than what we see in every single race? In vritually every single distance race the winner wins in lane 2. Technically they should say in lane 1 and they are never DQd. How is this any different? The person behind you - and lets be real Fisher and Woody weren't in his league today - runs a little bit extra.
Stop whining.
Chelimo is world class. Fisher and Kincaid are national class. Maybe they will amke the jump but they havent yet.
Chelimo said he would have drifted to lane 8 if necessary.
This is not just a dick move, what he did, it's a clear violation of the rules. No different than any other similar sport, but for some reason, in this instance, it's okay?
yeah the only way there would be a potential protest is if Teare was in that group and got caught running to lane 4 as well. But he wasn’t. So nothing will happen
I'm sorry but Chelimo won with a totally lame ass strategy - 'Chicken $hit' running by going 'wide' and blocking others acceleration. Everyone knows it. It's not superior running or a superior strategy! The question is; How not to get caught in that stupid trap? If you bash into other people in the straight, you'll get disqualified and if you adjust and move to the inside, you'll break your stride and acceleration, so you're screwed. The only way is to get to the inside first and hold onto it with your life. Fisher was a gentleman about it though and didn't let it phase him in the least - Excellent Sportsmanship!
He should be careful with using those tactics. He might "accidentally" get spiked.
..easy fix to all the rest: "RUN FASTER!' There is no crying in Track & Field

No one seems to be pointing out the obvious, which is that Chelimo had to run more distance too....
Classic straw man fallacy, it's not the distance run that's the issue, someone running the corners in lane 2 easily ran more distance. The problem is that runners expect to run in reasonably straight lines. Instead, Chelimo messed with their heads by making their path unpredictable, which also messed with their strides. If this happens again with 2 people behind Chelimo, hopefully they'll be smart enough to run on each side, one will get an opening.
Still, i don't think Chelimo should have gotten DQd because it was a straight flair, he didn't weave.
But, did Centro flair to lane 4? No, he's not that kind of guy. Sure, pull that move for the gold medal, but Chelimo had Tokyo sewed up, and he probably would have won a straight line race anyway and gotten better support from his future teammates, his fans and maybe even his sponsors.
lol my runners arent that good and I am not smart enough to coach them to be faster, so failing that I will just have them over exert to the final straightaway and then cut off the stronger runners at the finish since apparently its a perfectly fine strategy.
Seriously though either remove the rule, change the rule to allow for discretion, or enforce the rule. Its not fair to have some athletes following the rule while other runners will break it as a matter of strategy.
It’s not a strawman argument. Whether or not an athlete gained advantage with a particular tactic is obviously relevant to whether a DQ is appropriate.
Otherwise, I agree with you that a DQ is not appropriate here.
RE: Sponsor support. Nike wants their athletes to win. I’m sure they paid him a nice bonus for first place.
Now this is how you are supposed to race.

Yeah, this is totally normal. Nothing odd here at all.
