Calm down everyone. He’s years removed from competitive running. Just running a sub-3 marathon for him is a success.
Ok
I feel bad for the guy but have to wonder what the heck he was thinking. A 20 minute positive split shows amazing lack of respect for the distance and/or unawareness of one's true fitness.

Or maybe he was suffering through cramps or his stomach went bad.
Has he said what happened yet? It seems like a good idea to, at least, hear what what he has to say rather than treat him like an idiot.
I would like to see the full splits. 2:28-9 seems within his range.
Did he crash all at once?
Good result. He's running off of pure talent right now without the training. How many miles per week is he runs?
webb always was
dumb as F3ck.....at pacing

Sure that would be interesting to hear.
But since cramps and stomach problems commonly result from pacing errors I'm not sure that would change anything.

Probably could have run 2:35 with better pacing. He must have run some 8:00 miles near the end.
I was in the race (and also died) and he went out with the lead pack for reasons unknown. He ran 1:13 a few weeks ago, so kind of a wild move but I’ll give him credit on sticking with it.
I ran my PR of 2:41:48 there back in 1996. 1:19:59/1:21:49.

Did you beat him?
When you passed him did you think, “oh shtt im passing Alan Webb??”
Sort of an interesting comparison:
I too ran Grandmas at age 38, but in 1995
I ran my very modest 2:47 PR at that race. My splits were almost dead even < 00:10 between 1/2s.
The bigger difference IMO is that I was 4:43 miler in my 20s versus Webb's 3:46.
Now at 64 1/2 my goal is to just get under 6:00 for mile!

Funny. I ran Grandma's in 1991 at age 33 and also ran 2:47. It wasn't a PR, and I didn't think it was a very fast course.
I never ran a mile flat out for time, but I doubt I ever could have broken 5:20.
Now at 63 my goal is to jog a mile without getting injured.

He did the same thing in his 1:13, ran a couple 5:10 miles with the leaders at the beginning and then slowed down.
Come on guys give him a break he’s running for fun.
Fkn haters even troll the fastest Miller in US history.
Yes it sounds like he had a very rough second half but who knows what really happened wait for his comments and have some respect.

From Webb’s social media...
alanwebb1 Praise the Lord Jesus! I finished a marathon! Quite a journey for me along beautiful Lake Superior in Duluth, MN. Went out with the big boys with Sub 230 goal through halfway (114) then had to have some walking in there so nothing would break on me (134 second half) Still had a blast and want to do another marathon soon! Big reward getting a hug from Joanie at the finish line 🤗Running is not a zero sum game (ie. Crossing the finish line first is the only way to “win”). I progressed in fitness since my last effort and enjoyed the effort so that is the winning. Thank you @grandmasmarathon for hosting me and putting on a world class event. And thank you @runjwebb for being super wife to give the time to do this. I love you. Thank you @stthereseoflisieux for any of your prayers to Jesus. Proud to run as a prayer for the Pro-Life cause with @liferunners413 for the legal protection of Unborn children and for the gift of running. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you,” Jeremiah 1:5a
He bonked hard... Saw him come through around mile 22 looking tough and he started walking for a good 200-300 meters or so. Just goes to show you that the marathon bonk can get anybody. Glad he stuck it out and crossed the finish line instead of just dropping.

Oh yes “run for fun” is going out way too hard and dying. No actually run for fun would be to just coast the whole way.
Did Julia or Jim Ryun make him super religious? Definitely don't remember this side of Webb in sub-4:00 (shout out to Chris Lear - rojo's friend?)
