+1
Two days after a sub 27 10000.
My bad, I was going by AllTimeAthletics and they only have 5
Hagos also ran a sub 27 minute 10000m two days ago, so a good performance for sure. 4th at the Ethiopian trials in 10000m, I wonder if Ethiopia will put him in in 5 or 10 with this run.

in the past they seem to go off times vs. the actual trials so I bet he is in the 5,000m

The trials' commentator was saying something similar.
I think the trials' winners are guaranteed a spot but the rest is at the selectors' discretion.
Consider he's worn an old pair of none super spikes for all these races;
July 2019 he ran another insane double;
17th July - 26:48 10,000m WIN Hengelo Ethiopian Trials
20th July - 13.01 5000m WIN London DL (53sec last lap out kicked Jakob)
June 2021
8th June - 26;57 - 4th - Hengelo Ethiopian Trial
10th June - 12:48 - 2nd - Florence DL
Will Ethiopia pick him for Tokyo?
He's gonna be there at the bell in either race. I'd say 5000m is his best chance as Cheptugui and co will be coming back from a tasty 10,000m and 5000m heats.
He needs the new spikes. Throwing away a medal if not.
Gebhriwet is the living debunklement of "super spikes"
New shoes run the fastest times because the sponsors give the new shoes to the fastest runners. The time causes the shoe, the shoe doesn't cause the time.
Agreed

Wrong.
Record are suddenly being beaten after a a long pause? All runners have become suddenly better?
What long pause?
Records are constantly being broken. There are no anomalies in the progression for any events. The 10,000 had a "pause" because it is a dying event and few attempts are made anymore. The new records are only slight improvements.
Who'd Gebrhiwet beat? Oh yeah, new-record guy Cheptegei. Guess the magic spikes don't work for him anymore? Or maybe he's just another top elite just slightly faster than the other sub 12:40 guys. It was bound to happen eventually, but not very often, eh? No flood of 12:3x's, just him, and just once.
If the shoe-believers really want to prove anything, instead of cherry picking results to moon over, they need to make a plausible mechanical argument. I've yet to see any of them demonstrate even a basic understanding of how running works. Complete opposite of cyclists, who understand every last mechanical detail of their sport.

Just stop. Gebhriwet (sp) ran in Adidas Avanti

The 5000m record was 17 years old when it was broken and nobody had came close to it before.
Nobody had come close to the 1500m record since Hicham and Kiprop and now they are close from beating it..
Komen "mount everest" 3000m indoor record who had never been approched barely survived a race that wasn't even a world record attempt by a talented steeple runner.
You are deluded if you think that the new shoes have not improved the performances of all these runners who are suddenly breaking PR , NR and even WRs left and right.

Gebriwhet ran slower than his 5000m PB of 2012 of 12:47
He would have likely beaten it if he had the new shoes.

This is the big question. He may well not even be competing in Tokyo since he didn't finish top 3 in the Ethopian trials. Seems to me he made a mistake by running the 10K instead of the 5K at the trials.
It's been nearly 9 years since his first sub-12:50. Surely that's some sort of record? Of the 6 guys who went under the barrier in Paris 2012 he's been the only one left for many years. I remember watching him run a sub-13 in Somerville, MA five years ago. Amazing consistency.
He was celebrating a lot after crossing the finish line in Florence. I've always thought Gebrehewit was better at 5k (medalled '15, '16) so I was shocked to see him in the 10k at the trails. However, I think the men's 5k team selection was a bit more fluid with an almost Olympic final like field a few days later. Why else would Edris, T Bekele double back? I think Wale is guaranteed a spot (if he ran a fast steeple, I think Ethiopia would still pick him for the 3kST) in the 5k, but Gebrehewit must've known this 5k could be used as a safety net if he didn't get top 3 at trials (which he got 4th).
Also wouldn't be surprised if they said the top Ethiopian at DL Florence makes the trials. Edris lost to Gebrehewit and T Bekele so I doubt he's on. Last year, they made the DL final in Zurich their trials and gave it to the top 3. Kijeclha actually was the 4th Ethiopian in that race, but luckily he had already finished 2nd in the 10k trials. It's easy to do top 3 go for 10k because when is there going to be another world class 10k?
Team looks like Wale, Gebrehewit, and T Bekele/N Melak. If Wale wants to the 5k over steeple. T Bekele didn't run the trials which even further makes me believe Florence was a factor in their selection process.
In all, I'd be shocked if Gebrehewit wasn't picked. Edris too risky. He's like Bekele with the marathon, is he going to round into form and show up or not? Edris wouldn't have even been in Doha if he didn't have the auto from winning world's in '17.
