Anyone know what Kessler can run a flat out 200m or 400m in? I'm guessing he could probably manage a 22.5/48.5. His closing speed is absolutely world class for the middle distances.

going off him only getting 50 point in the 400 i would say 23.2 or so with a running start
My guess is 22.8-23.4 FAT
Closing speed ≠ pure speed.
One can be able to run last lap in 52 and but only manage 49 in a 400m dash.
ALL distance guys are significantly slower over 200m than people tend to think. My guess is that Kessler gets 24.0 at best.
Hocker maybe 23.0.
A rule of thumb I've seen before when estimating a 400m from a 200m time is to double the 200m and add 3.5 seconds which seems to be pretty accurate for a lot of top runners. I've seen he's been able to close in 50 seconds at the end of a training session so a high 48 or 49 doesn't seem out of the question. A high 22 for the 200m seems possible off this.
I think this is the most likely. I would be interested to know what a Seb Coe could run in todays day and age. His raw speed was ridiculous. 100m 10.8, 400m high 46. Not sure on his 200m but most likely close to 22 flat.
coe ran a 21.78 200,back in 1978.i imagine kessler would run a 200 in about 22.6.

You think Hobbs Kessler can run a 24 200 at best? This is comical. 22.5-23 IMO
200m speed estimates for distance runners are hilarious
take a 400m time, take a second or two off because "they did it in a workout" or "it wasnt a serious attempt"
THEN use the same math that you'd use for a 200m/400m guy to do the conversion down to 200m, ignoring that most these guys can run decent 400s because it has not-unsignificant aerobic contribution.
His PR is 24.1 or 24.2 from Junior year
Rolling start and after a mile time trial

a relationship for Coe of 46.87/21.78 = 2.15x. Standard for a middle-distance runner and/or a very efficient sprinter. Sprinters tend to be 2.20+, distance runners (if they ever run a 200m) would be 2.10 x perhaps or even less.
Michael Johnson 43.18/19.32 = 2.23. WVN was closer to 2.16 so more on the endurance side than MJ; 43/20 = 2.15.
22.6 for kessler might be worth (2.15x) a 48.6, or perhaps he is slower than that for 200m (50/2.15 = 23.25).
Mind you Naser is at about 2.14 (48.14/22.5), which either means she might be able to run a good 800m (pretty good endurance) or something else is going on.
I ran 23.6 in high school and wasn't fast. Kessler is 22.x.

this is the right way to think about conversions
Probably around 23 flat or just under.
Thanks, I thought I had seen somewhere Coe had run a high 21 for 200m but didn't want tomisquote so thanks for the confirmation - he was quick!! Haven't seen that conversion relationship before for the 200/400 but looks highly accurate. Cheers. It would have been interesting to see how Coe would have gone in an 800m against David Rudisha or 1500m against the likes of Hicham El G all in their primes.

You were very fast but were lacking in strength.
Agreed. With a more Lydiard style approach to your training, with that type of basic speed I would have expected approx a 51sec 400m, 1:50 800m, 4:02 mile, 8:44 2 mile.

Probably. When he ran the50 that was at the end of the Michigan workout

Times are too aggressive.
400 would be 51-52; 800 would be, at best 1:54; 1600 at best would've been 4:12; 3200 approximately 9:12 +/-
