If the 5k trials is tactical like this, can any pro close like him? His acceleration that last 100 is on another level!

Was that a 52 second last lap? Anyways, his acceleration in the last 60m was incredible. Not to mention this was less than an hour after the 800.
I think there was way too many runners on the field for the splits to register. It looks like Hocker's last lap was 53.XX. He was chillin the whole race and got tired of being boxed in and made a big move. This looked like a King ches like finish. Just unreal.
Absolutely redonkulous. Not human!!
WTF with that video, skipping the surge. Jumps from 13:25 race time to 13:37.
It was absolutely RIDICULOUS to have a field that large.
Reminded me of the '64 Olympic 10000.

You're joking right?
In the 2016 Olympics, Paul Chelimo closed in 53.1 and ran 13:03. In the process, his doors were BLOWN OFF by .6 by Mo Farah - and that was wihtout super spikes.
So can a pro close a 13:30 race in 53? yes. Most definitely.

yep. worth repeating
you have to close in 53 off a hot pace in majors.
with a slow pace, you need much faster.
hocker's progression however, indicates he might get there.
as rojo said, there are levels,
And Gebrhiwet and Jakob ran 53 last lap in a 13:02 in DL London 2019.

He said 5K Trials, not the Olympics. And no one's debating a 52/53 second last 400. Op pointed out that crazy burst in the last 100, coming off that last 400. It was crazy fast.
Lagat closed in 53.0 to win a 13:35 race at the 2016 trials. Hocker definitely has the closing speed to make an Olympic team if it’s at a pace similar to that.
wow
11 seconds on the last 100. Not too many great distance runners can do that.
Indeed, Oly trials are usually slower , I can definitely see Hocker outkicking some pros like Klecker and Kincaid at a slower pace.
Hocker would need the 5k standard but I think this, like so many of his other races, further confirms he is a threat to make the team at multiple events if he hits a standard.

Where is the 100m to go mark of the race?
Chances to ever be a US Champ in 1500,5000M
Hocker: 75%
N Young: 60%
Teare: 40%
Let’s not forget arguably the greatest 5000 final of all time, the 2003 WC. An 18/19 (?) yr old Kipchoge closed in 53.xx and ran 12:52.79.
I agree that many pro's can close in 53 in a 13:30 race. Let's not forget that he ran a 1:46 800m race just over an hour earlier. It's not like he was fresh.
Is that a guesstimate? 11.99 or 11.01? I’m skeptical to say the least.

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
