Craig will run fast when it’s needed. He’s just like Murphy those guys show up when it matters. Just wait on it 🤫

Couldn't even run faster than the Olympic Trials standard? Absolutely pathetic and embarrassing from the 2019 U.S champion.
-------------------
Engels has never been world class!
He had his best season in 2019 where he ran sub 1:45 in the 800m and 3:34 in the 1500m.
Last year he was far behind the best in the 1500m: In Monaco he ran 3:35.42 around 7 seconds behind Timothy.
Engels seems to have peaked at 25 which is quite normal for a miler. It´s funny to see some people on this thread consider 27 year old Engels a big TALENT. It is possibly the same kind of people who years ago predicted 16 years old Jakob was close to peaking?
The fact is that the US has no top milers at the moment. The youngsters Hocker, Nuguse and Waleed seem to be closest to make the Olympics (I assume Teare will go for the 5000m?)

This was after many of the adventures and great conflagrations including the protracted war over the Gaelic 🌼 🌹 Rose (Visigoths). Now that the prince has gone home to his Saxon 🌸 rose the future remains uncertain as it was no secret to many in the world, that his was the Gaelic 🌼 🌹 Rose...

All of you people have been obsessed with the term "done" the last couple months. "centros done, jagers done, huddles done (this actually might be true), moh is done". So he has a 1500m to test his speed right now after doing months of training and he's been at altitude. Lets see what done is like when he actually can run with the worlds bests unlike anyone else in that race
Looking back at past Olympics, how many former US champions came in without having recent success in the diamond/golden league and then performed well at the Olympics? How many went three years without winning a fast race?
One of our slumbering greats may be a coiled spring and shock the world in July, but I suspect that most of them are, indeed, past being considered medal threats. I'll be rooting for them like I rooted for Alan Webb and German Fernandez to the end, but US medal hopes 1500+ lie with people who have been running well, or untested youth right now, IMO. (I put Purrier and Houlihan in this group, as well as a people barely on the radar.)

Lol I'm not counting out the 12:47 guy after a rust buster 1500
For real. The LRC article (
https://www.letsrun.com/news/2021/05/usatf-golden-games-recap-elle-purrier-breaks-400-shacarri-richardson-runs-10-7-twice-and-says-shes-not-done-yet/) about the 1500 and shorter races shows his season opener 1500s each year, and he's never gone faster than 3:39.85...including the year he ran 12:47. Seriously you guys, don't count Moh out. He's only 30; he's not done yet.

If I had to take a guess right off the bat I’d say he was probably building his 5k strength all winter so he could last through the rounds at the Olympics (ran 13:36 in late Feb, a huge PR for Craig) and is now rounding into fast 1500m shape for the trials. He’ll probably get better every week up to the trials and should still be in the conversation for making the team in the 1500m. Don’t forget, he’s still Craig Engels. People here have a short term memory sometimes.

Credit to the top-2 guys for going for it & getting rewarded. Everyone else seemed content to race for 3rd, Engels included. Glad Wynne ended up in that spot. At least he did some of the legwork during the race.
Yeah but the top two guys aren't American.
The American slate of milers is going to be in terrible shape in this Olympics. Any word on how Josh Thimpson is doing this Olympic season?
We need Teare, Hocker, and Nugusse to get in some fast time trials bc they at least go for PRs every race
I can’t stand the mullet and mustache cool guy act anymore. This dude seems really cool in interviews but he’s never going to win anything.
He's a good guy and 1:44/3:34 two years ago indicate that he might get his training right some year and run 3:31-32. However, he's not been the same since 2019. I think he's probably not getting the right training to optimize his abilities. When you plateau with a coach and then go on the downside while still in your physical prime, and it's been several years, it may be time to find a new coach and group, do something different, join Hoare and Ritz at altitude, something. Give it this season and then move on if it's not working.
He needs to transfer to Newbury Park.
Too busy messing around with his fellow Portland bums. 0 dedication
Maybe we should be asking what's up with the American milers?
I see an Australian and a Canadian going for it and then a bunch of Americans afraid to stick their nose in the race.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
