My local suburban upper-middleclass high school has nearly 3000 students and not one close to performing at the level of Newbury Park. It's much more than just a luckier draw with a higher enrollment. That said, I will grant that the Newbury Park demographic is one that has a greater culture of fitness and success among the parents than most other schools, and the kids are more likely identified and trained at a younger age than in most other areas. Newbury Park is geographically situated in a great area for running.
