Cheptegei closed the 26:48 gold in Doha against Kejelcha in 55.39.

You think he can run 12:23-26? Pretty bold.
I think it’s a fine result for Cheptegei contextually. The more interesting news to me is that Musagala could be very much relevant again in 2021.

Right, and I don't think he can close any faster. That's all. He has to have a race where closing in 55 is enough to win. If its 53 or faster, I'm pretty sure he loses. He's no Mo Farah
If you can run 3:37 it clearly reflects the fact you can run a 55 and close in a 55 if you're still feeling good. But anything faster than that is questionable
When you have enough EPO in you, 3:37 is easily enough to break the 5000m WR. El G ran 3:26.0 with an 800m pb of 1:49.
Guys...Guys...Guys it’s late April. Anyone who is ready now won’t be in late July early august. He probably is in the middle of base training

That is incorrect. First of all he closed his last 800m in 2004 film medal under 1:47
Gold medal

Wait. Let me make sure i'm understanding this correctly.
So CHeptegei loses a tight race at 3900 feet of altutide to the national record holder of Uganda at 1500 (Ronald Musagala who has run 1:45/3:30) and people say he's finished?
Who said he is finished? I see no posts saying that. Were they a deleted?
It's no secret he's a metronomic runner which is why I wouldn't put him as overwhelming favourite for gold in Tokyo. Championship races can go a lot of different ways and a lot will depend on whether others can impose their race on him which is what Farah was so good at. I think Kiplimo is a more adaptable racer than Cheptegei so I think he'll be the man to beat in championships in future

So funny that some dingbats were actually saying last year that he's good enough to beat Jakob in a 1500. Unbelievable. No way could he even beat Gressier.
Is it any relevant that the guy who beats him by just a second in this race has beaten your Jakob, your measure of 1500 excellence?
