I’m a little surprised that W Brown and Keeney were so far behind G Rodriguez based on 3200 times. Maybe they are better on the track than on the grass or they are just trying to get used to run XC grass courses at a high level.
They do seem to have a “clearly defined” top 7 this year based on track results and this time trial, which is kind of helpful.
(2 Rodriguezs, 2 Browns, Keeney, Marotta, and Paradise). It looked like that in track too.
Big gap between the 7th and 8th runner here
The freshman class appears small on the boys side based on this time trial, but
based on the roster below , it is actually very big.
The freshman class is still kind of small on the girls side

I think she's done an incredible job at GO. I don't know why everyone on LRC assumes that you have to come in with a ton of coaching experience to be a good coach. Most coaches have been around competitive running for 20, 30, or 40 years before they become a head coach. You learn a lot over decades. Congrats to GO on their win last night at Cool Breeze.
Great Oak is back to the #1 team in CA
First time since 2018 (when Newbury Park was introduced)
Great Oak beat Newbury at Clovis 2019.
I wonder how the future looks for the boys program. They look really good for XC 2024 but not sure about after that
Based on this years track times, you can see the following on athletic.net:
In 2019 (last full season pre-covid for Soles I believe), they had 73 runners with times for the 1600m, and 42 were under 5:00.
In 2024, they have only 34 runners with times for the 1600m, and only 16 are under 5.
So less than half the runners, and the quality drop off is even higher.
Looking 2 years down the road at their top 9th and 10th graders, the 5th best time is only 5:05. Their must be over 100 schools in California that can beat that. The coach has a lot of work to do now. The program is something they have to build now, but at least they still have that great history, which means they aren't starting from nothing.
Next years XC team might be the best in California, so maybe that will help bring in some talent.
I looked up the Harriman schedule. Looks like Soles new team is getting good in track to.

2021 was the last track season at Herriman without Soles.
They had 2 sub-10s. 11 sub-5s. Lots of them were seniors.
2022 (first season with Soles) - 4 sub-10s and 17 sub-5s (only 1 of them was a senior).
2023 - 16 sub-10s, 25 sub-5s.
2024 - 10 sub-10s, 20 sub-5s, but there is a lot of the season left.
Yes, there are LOTS of teams in CA that have faster frosh/soph classes. In fact, the fastest 9th grade time at Great Oak this year is 5:14.
I think next fall, all of the top boys teams in CA will have only 1-2 seniors except Buchanan and Great Oak
