Okay, lets see how this season plays out then. 10 weeks out from the trials if I am the Olympic 1500m champ and I can't break 1.50 off my strength/aerobic work I am concerned.
But then again what might I possibly know about professional middle distance running.
Let's check back in 10 weeks.
The big factor playing out here is if he's healthy. If Matt is healthy and training well he's going to make the team. Running a slow 800 in April (on the east coast, indicative of a training block out there) isn't a deal-breaker. He could be in a heavy training phase and used the 800 to get a race under his belt and speed things up a bit. Also, don't forget the 5000m. It's not going to be a fast final at the trials (unless someone pushes the pace- Chelimo? Lomong?). He can cruise the semi-final and just sit and kick in the final. I wouldn't be surprised to see him run a quality 5000m in the next month or so. Remember, this is the Olympic Champion, and he's got plenty of quality people around him.
We'll see soon enough.
