A terrible thing to happen to someone. Worse than death to some of us. Hope he regains as much as physically possible.
Too bad these car drivers couldn't be the ones paralyzed or killed instead of the innocent bike riders. It is way too easy to get a license and even if someone is a prohibited driver they will still easily find a way to drive. Pay attention!
When you think about it, 1 in 80-90 people will die in a car accident in their life. So that means about 1 in 100 people have hit and killed someone with their vehicle. Some aren't even affected by that fact that they killed someone, minimal remorse from them except maybe faking it in the court room.
Note, the language. Car stuck him from behind ... as if the car was self driving. Might as well also say victim was shot by a gun.
No, someone ran him over. Tired of this type of sloppy reporting as if cars fall from the sky and land on cyclists.

No it doesn't. Anyone who thinks about it for 2s realizes the 2 big faults with your math.
I was hit by a car while biking. I was in my designated bike lane, and Wham, suddenly I'm on the ground in shock and had no idea what hit me. Fortunately for me, I only suffered a broken arm. Crazy how fast that can happen. Never saw it coming. Could've ended my life.
So many distracted drivers on the road nowadays. I used to commute to work by bike. Now I rarely bike on roads, even if they have a designated bike lane.
I hope Shawn Bradley can somehow gain some mobility back. Sad to read this happening to anyone.
Very sad to hear this news for anyone. I hope that through physical rehabilitation he can regain some mobility.
Sorry to read about this. His rehab is going to be challenging especially for how tall he is.
Man, that is horrible. It is one of the main reasons why I have avoided cycling as an option as I age. Sure running has injuries, but cycling injuries at things like broken arms, broken collar bones, permanent paralysis, death.
The irony of cycling to avoid running injuries and then ending up in a wheelchair or worse because of a car or just lose gravel is just a risk I'm not really wanting to take.

ive struggles with that for a long time. knowing how great commuting on a bike would be for health, money, and environment, but then seeing the reality of how really dangerous it is. I spent so much money on reflective tape, clothing, very high lumen lights and still realizing that a driver not seeing you for 1 second is all it takes.
A friend and coworker of mine's daughter was riding her bike and struck by a car and is now a quadriplegic. She was just beginning her freshman year at Univ. of Texas. I can't even describe his state when describing what happened. Just so tragic. You can't really have any pleasures in life when you have a daughter like that. Always feeling so sad for her.
It's disturbing how many people choose to be on their cell phone driving. Some do it nearly all the time. They get a text, they grab their phone and read it while still driving then send a reply back while still driving. I wish undercover cops would look for this more, its everywhere. I look over and a driver's beside me on his/her phone. Need stiffer penalties to deter it. So many bad drivers and idiots on the road who the cops just ignore and instead pull over someone going 10 miles over speed.

This is just so sad. I really hope he is able to regain some movement.
About the quote above... there are terrible drivers and people who are WAY too aggressive, but sometimes this is just a mistake. I know a man - a runner - who hit someone on their bike and killed them. It ruined his marriage and his life and he was never the same. A very kind man. Sometimes these things happen and it can be devastating for everyone involved.
Dang. That's really upsetting. I was a fan of his growing up. I hope he has a better than expected recovery and is able to keep spirts high and still enjoy life to it's fullest.

I was a fan of his too (one of the few in Philadelphia because fans were upset that the Sixers didn't pick Penny Hardaway). I was always happy for him that he enjoyed a fairly long career in Dallas.

I know at least two people who’ve hit pedestrians. Both victims were homeless/drug addicts. I’ve also been hit riding bike or running a few times. It’s been a very long time though. I learned that drivers don’t give a sh!t so I have a couple rules when I’m out now. Close calls on nearly every run, but no collisions.
This is so sad. These type of bicycle accidents are why I ride with a super bright, 1 watt blinky in back, an intermittent strobe in front, and I always wear bright colors.
I have no idea whether he had these things, but I'm amazed at the number of cyclists I see who are wearing black or gray and have no blinky in back. They are almost invisible, even to cyclists like me. My buddy had a blinky, but you could only see it from 20 feet away. It was worthless. I urged him to get a brighter light.
Case in point, while riding with a buddy, a car came over a rise a little in our lane. My buddy was 100 feet ahead of me and the car didn't move over until my front strobe was visible. Then, it swerved back into its lane. Like I said, cyclists are almost invisible to most drivers.
Who was that really good American runner that was hit by a car and badly injured. Was that Doug Padilla?
What kind of driver is so terrible they can't see SHAWN BRADLEY? They must feel like a complete idiot. It was in a residential neighborhood a block from his home. Hopefully they do some jail time.
Also...there's a strong possibility the reason he had such a severe injury is because of his height. Someone that tall falls very hard.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
