I've had issues with fatigue in the past... training will be going well and suddenly these fatigue symptoms come about. Trouble sleeping, loss of appetite, lethargy. But the most noticeable symptom is a lack of energy while running. I have zero "pop" and my effort level goes waaaaay up. My heart rate on an easy run is much higher than it should be, and faster running sends my HR through the roof.
In the past, it's taken a few months of almost complete rest to start feeling normal again. And then I basically start from scratch in rebuilding fitness. I thought this was some type of underlying medical condition, but I've gone through extensive lab work and medical exams- they all come back normal.
So I have a few questions:
(1) Does this sound like overtraining to you?
(2) If you've had overtraining, what was your experience like? What has helped you avoid overtraining? Any tips for speeding up the recovery process?
(3) I have a marathon this Sunday. I've had a stellar training cycle and I've been crushing workouts. Up until a week ago, I was set to break 2:40. I don't think I'm in full blown "overtrained" mode yet, but it's probably close. Is there anything I can do to salvage this race?
Thanks!
