I get for a Track 10k, but on an XC course?

Comfort maybe? I know when I run in vaporflys, my feet feel a whole lot better both during and after the race. They probably want to stay as fresh as possible for the upcoming races that matter.
Recovery. They don't want to trash their legs. Listen to the ben true podcast. He talks all about it.

This is actually quite smart.

Haven't listened to the podcast but IMO the one thing the super shoes may do is allow athletes to recover from tough sessions quicker. String enough really good sessions and bang a new pb.
I'm pretty sure that's where their primary benefits come from. Like sure it definitely helps a little in a race, but being able to train and recover better leads to far greater/lasting benefits.

Recently got a pair of the new spikes. Anecdotally can say this is my number one take away. Not running individual reps noticeably faster than before, but man I can do a huge amount of work all in spikes and not feel trashed the next day. Have really been able to string some aggressive workouts along which previously would leave me struggling to recover but instead getting by.
It's interesting, with road shoes folks talked about responders/non-responders (I think the chat was overblown, everyone is going to get a benefit from those) but with the spikes it could show a difference between athletes/coaches willing to push the boundaries a bit more in practice versus coaches who treat them like another spike e.g. only spiking up for specific work when you could be getting more time in them and getting a greater training boost.
Told you all:

It's the shoes, but not the spikes.
Better shoes mean more training miles with less strain, resulting in better race times. That's why the Nike Revolution is the shoe all the pros are using.
Super shoes allow for more quality miles with less strain, meaning better race times. When you compare runners across generations it's not just the track and race day shoes that matter -- it's the whole package.

Isn't the next% banned for XC use by world athletics? Has the WCC / NCAA gone rogue?
I am a BYU fan but this is wierd that this would be allowed, does anyone know if NFHS or NCAA plan to ever follow World Athletics rules?
Link to World Athletics approved shoe list.
https://www.worldathletics.org/news/press-releases/list-of-approved-competition-shoes-publishedI don't like this at all. Once the carbon plated spikes came out, the stack height shoe ban on the track was kind of stupid. Canova made a similar point on another thread
I think most can agree:
trainers <<<<< regular old spikes < Carbon plated SHOES < Carbon plated SPIKES
Personally I actually think there are some older model spikes that are equivalent to carbon plated shoes. Regardless, why are we banning the SECOND or THIRD fastest type of shoe? Makes no sense. Athletes should be allowed to wear a slower shoe in say a 5k semifinal so they can recover more quickly for the final. Or maybe they have a nagging Achilles
And don't tell me you can slap some spikes on the bottom of VaporFly Next% or AlphaFly and they'd be faster than the carbon plated spikes on the market. I don't buy it

No the next% is not illegal. You might not like it, but it's within the rules.

Exactly what Ben Johnson says about his steroid use. He says it didn't make him faster, but let him train harder with shorter recoveries.

As someone who owns Next %s and dragonflys this is true 100% the dragonflys are definitely faster than Next%s on the track even if you put a spike plate on Next%s although dragonflys beat up your legs much more than Next%s but a little less than regular spikes

They are illegal for World Athletics XC competition - check the WA shoe list.. The NCAA apparently has decided that it knows better.
This is the best summary I've heard about this topic! The ability to be able to recover after a quality workout is priceless. If runners just practiced in the super spikes, but didn't race in them I believe you would still see fast times.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
