Can you imagine a Washington runner saying, “your move @Nick Willis” on Tanner’s NZ indoor record, and Willis actually attacking him like a petulant child?
I can't imagine that, for a couple of reasons:
1) Nick Willis is perhaps the classiest of class acts in the sport and
2) Nick didn't recently race Tanner in the slow heat of a 5k, sit on him for 3/5 of the race, barely outkick him, brag on Instagram, and then get (appropriately) roasted about it.
The Sound Running 5k I think has been overlooked in the latter pages of this thread; that was what Christman was referencing in his "your move" comment. Centro ducked actual competition (and a likely mid-pack finish) despite having one of the fastest PR's in the field. He clearly was more than fit enough to move to the stronger heat, but it appears that he didn't want to get clapped by most of the field. Instead he chose to barely take a win tactically from people he wildly outclassed.
In regards to Cooper's Sit and Kick appearance, it sounded more like he was expressing some frustration he had with an old friend and former coach, Centro. He isn't malicious, he's just saying that Centro was fairly immature, but was a generally good guy. I've seen Bowerman runners say much of the same thing on their Insta with Centro there, and he recognizes it as true. Cooper doesn't seem mean-spirited, but I could be missing some subtext or context behind his words.
Even when he talks about Powell leaving, that sounded like some genuine frustration at an understandably frustrating situation. I would want to know if my coach was leaving, especially after a full year of developing a close relationship with them. It didn't sound as though he was disparaging the Powells in general, just expressing frustration.
I haven't seen the UO boys' comments on Centro's Instagram though, so I could be missing that piece, but it seems like they have far more reason to be frustrated with him than this thread is showing.
