I wonder what Alberto's wife Molly's take has been on all of this. As a former U of O distance runner she can relate to what an elite athlete has to go through. I can't imagine with all of the evidence against him that she would believe his BS. She can't ignore those who have spoken out against him.
Alberto Salazar's appeal with CAS is scheduled to be heard March 3. Nike has been paying the legal fees.
Whenever his suspension ends, either because CAS overturns the USADA decision, reduces the ban to two years (which would be this coming September), or upholds the ban to four years - Salazar will be back at Nike.
His prior history and continued employment will create unhappiness within the company - particularly because of his treatment of female athletes. But, he coaches and creates winners. As history has shown - winning covers up a lot of misdeeds.

UofO is a dopers paradise. Pretty certain that all athletes there are required to be juiced. Molly knew what was up with sleazy the entire time because she was in that culture herself.
At the conclusion of one of the UW Indoor meets a few years back, while Rupp was warming up on the track to do a workout, I had the chance to shoot the breeze with Salazar. We were talking about Cain as he had only been coaching her for a little while. What I remember most is that he said Cain was the "TOUGHEST" runner he has "EVER" coached. He said that he would put her through the most grueling workouts and unlike his other top athletes, she would ask for "MORE" at the conclusion of each session. He continued on in great admiration about Cain and her drive not only to be the best, but how he was challenged as a coach to push her to being her best. I just had to say this because as with everything, there is always more to the "story" than one side.
The reality is that we are a forgiving society and a society that loves to see both the fall of an icon as well as the rebound. Look at people in sports and public eye that have done or accused of doing FAR worse than Alberto:
Ray Lewis
Michael Vick
Woody Allen
Bill Clinton
Mike Tyson
Clarence Thomas
Hugh Grant
Hugh Freeze
Martha Stewart
Danny Trejo
Tiger Woods
The list goes on and on. Plenty of people have done regrettable things. There is also two sides to every story. He will be back. He will be successful. If you are not mentally unstable, it will not effect your life at all,. If you are someone that obsesses about what other people do, then your life sucks.
If he succeeds in his appeal (God willing he doesn't), no Western Athlete with an oxygen-receiving brain would go within a mile of him. Honestly, I could see him getting a job with the Qatari or Bahrain national teams, training runners from East Africa who transfer their allegiance. He gets to work with A level athletes, would probably get paid a fortune, and can dope without impunity as the their governments will hide/bribe their way out of positive tests. If not there, may his Nike ties will hook them up with the Chinese national team and help develop their runners who are underperforming in the long distance running events.
He will coach the Alphas of WesFly Athletics. Period.

I differ with your list a bit. Martha Stewart was convicted of lying to F.B.I. Before all this is done, Al Sal may do the same, lie to F.B.I. Martha Stewart was not even convicted of insider trading. Her Merrill Lynch F.A. who brought to Stewart the inside info was only fired I believe from M.L.
Tiger had several girlfriends on the side. This was a matter between Tiger Woods and his now ex-wife.
Al Sal is worse. Even if P.E.D.s to his athletes is never proven, the sport psychologist situation was on him and Nike. The athletes under Al Sal who believe they were actually talking to a psychologist may go after Al Sal in court over that issue.

I wish this was true, I really do, but I don't think that this is the case. I don't forget the reaction from former NOP runners when he was banned. The feigned confusion. Craig Engels STILL referring to him as "cutting edge"--after he was banned, and then having the audacity to act offended when his choices were called into question. Jordan calling him a "father figure". It was like they were oblivious to what a freaking doping ban actually meant.
There is plenty of Salazar support in the sport, and they don't hide it well. They'll be back.

Agreed. Let's not forget that several athletes joined NOP in recent years, well after Salazar's doping infractions became public knowledge (but before he was banned for it).
Of course there were some threads here on letsrun when certain somebodies joined NOP despite everything, even after Farah left, but aside from that, there wasn't much of a public outcry if any.
Anyway, there is hope that CAS decides somewhere between USADA's and AAA's verdict.
Remember that Alberto is also suspended by SafeSport, that investigation is ongoing.
However there is a key difference between the two. As long as Salazar is suspended by USADA, any athlete who is a USATF member cannot train with him or they would themselves be committing an anti-doping violation.
A SafeSport suspension would keep him from coaching at USATF-sanctioned events, but there would be no penalty for any athletes that wanted to train with him.
Of course there will be athletes willing to train with him when it becomes possible again. We can look at coaches who have abused athletes in any sport, if they are allowed to coach again, there are always people willing to work with them.

Tiger was a huge deal. If you don't think so then you don't follow sports.
Al Sal is accused of calling women fat. He's accused of violating PED rules. He didn't kill anyone (Ray Lewis) or do anything immoral (Michael Vick/Tiger Woods/Mike Tyson/Hugh Freese). He isn't a criminal. The SafeSport is TEMPORARY and will EASILY be thrown out (not to mention a potential libel suit for being placed on a list of pedophiles and criminals) and an obvious overreach.
He will coach again and I will hope for the best for him .

He is guilty of calling women fat. He is guilty and convicted and sentenced for violating PED rules. He did many, many immoral things. (FFS, he experimented with doping on his own child.) He is a criminal. Those are the facts, and anyone who is honest and intelligent knows this.
