Yeah but you're still a nobody.
Yeah but you're still a nobody.
I am bumping this.
He ran a a 59 high 15k one month ago (hilly terrain) plus PR en route for the mile (xd) while doing what I think was a 10k test or a progression run (5.30, 11.15 3k, 18.35 5k). Currently I think his training is starting to be a problem, he ran his 15 k TT while at peak mileage for him (36 mpw) and planned to ran intervals the day before so that his legs were "springy". He s been focusing this month on the HM.
Results not so impressive so far but solid, I think he has good wheels for the the middle distance. Hopefully he will TT soon and we will see. Mileage is still scarce.
Here was my progress when I first started running at age 30.
1. Started running in February 2018 with mileage at 25 miles per week.
2. June - My first race was a 5K and I ran 20:30
3. July - Second 5K was 19:58
4. September - Third 5K was 18:57 (mileage ramped up to 40 per week )
So, it took me 7 months to get down to high 18's averaging about 30 mpw. I do not think I'm very talented and this time is attainable for an OK athlete.

Oh yeah, and I also play soccer.
You mostly play pocket pool and swallow the salami but you ARE elite.
It can be done.
I stopped running in May 2002, right after my senior season in track ended.
Just out of college, I trained for a 5k on 200 miles in the summer of 2006, with no running prior to June and none after August, and ran 20:26 at NERC in CLE. No speedwork or anything, just base EZ running.
I then stopped again until 2008. In late July I was able to barely run 2 miles in 19 minutes. I had the Bowman Cup at Kent State in early October. Ran 18:33, even splits too (5:57, 6:03, 6:00, 0:33 for the last 200m, and even if the course was slightly short, that's still a high-18 or low-19 course (very flat). I was his age at the time too (24-25).
I did XC and track in HS but not soccer.
The average runner can get faster than many people believe. No, those are not fast by LRC standards but being able to run sub-20 for anyone, let alone sub-19, ON LIMITED TRAINING. is a big accomplishment for non-superstar runners.
