The only documentation on this particular issue around bylaw approval is the February letter 2020 from the USOPC. Some people are pretty upset that I got a copy and posted it, which is absurd because in 2008 and 2014 the letters from the USOPC were posted online and all delegates could see them.
But supposedly the USOPC has been on multiple VERY THREATENING phone calls with the board, I guess? If you ask questions outside your "chain of command" some members of the board seem to think you are being a bad USATF member. They truly do not understand why we don't just trust them that they are telling the truth and trust them to govern the organization well with no checks on their power.
Why does the USOPC care? Because Rick Adams thinks we are a pain in the ass to deal with and made it his personal goal to bring us in line and be more like Gymnastics and Swimming. The USOPC wants to maximize revenue to the organization, no matter the cost to the athletes.
The USOPC, and many on USATF's board of directors, think that having any sort of drama is unhealthy and bad for the sport.
As I mentioned in my article, I strongly disagree. Transparency and discussion are critical to a healthy NGB. We are a huge and diverse sport, we are going to have heated arguments, that is healthy. The "no drama" attitude is exactly the reason so many NGBs kept their lists of banned coaches secret, and why they refused to ban so many more predators.
