For a DIII program they have very nice facilities. Plus, SWVA is a beautiful place that's affordable to live.
Yepyepandagain - I agree with you 100%! I am the guy you described. I never coached D1 and had ZERO desire to do so due to my particular situation. But, you missed my point. People act like the individual getting this job and many others on this board beat out 300+ qualified candidates and secured the Oregon HC Job. Most likely this job pays in the 25K-35K range and is more of an entry level job where 10- 15 people applied. Instead of people on this board looking at every person who gets a job and tear them apart - improve yourself. Like a previous poster mentioned, a lot of times it is who you know - network - good luck everyone

I don't know if there's a single position in the country that has only 10-15 people applying. I have no comment on anyone specific getting a job, but even when we've posted a barely full-time assistant position for the jumps we had about 150 applications. Most of those read like the applicant applies to every position possible, and maybe a dozen or two are reasonably qualified, but I'm guessing any HC position especially in distance will get 100 applications no matter the division or school.
Seems like James Thomas is heading to UGA from Texas Tech
Where are you getting this info from?

Any updates on Oklahoma? Haven't seen a posting yet.
I agree! There is no full time coaching job only getting 10-15 applicants. I would say most average at least 50-70 and some well over 100-150.
When I applied for a P5 volunteer assistant position the HC told me over 200 applicants applied. He never looked at my application because it was who I knew. Plain and simple. He never looked at the other 200 applicants either.
Oklahoma has Interviewed and has a candidate locked in. White dudes get your tissues ready…the tears are gonna fall like rain.

So what is Jerel Langley and Colin Boevers?
Pretty idiotic comment. There's currently more white individuals on staff than black. The individuals that were "purged" were black.
Where did you hear this?
This board seems to be full of pathetic white dudes who can’t get a job. They make fun of anyone who’s not a D1 coach from their parents basement. I’ve coached many levels but was never happier than coaching D3 after years of chasing the dream I’m going back to D3. Judge me if you want I’ve always had a job! It’s not the black mans fault or a women’s fault your not working it’s yours!

Just a small example of a very underqualified candidate getting a good job that many would love to have. Nothing against this woman personally (I don't know her at all), but look at her experience and look at her title. For those who don't read the story...she competed for Providence and was a volunteer coach for the program post-graduation, and now she is the Women's Head Track & Field Coach.
I know some people will say that the Director of CC/T&F is really the head coach of the women's team, and that may be true. But, this young coach will now be able to put HEAD Track & Field Coach on her resume forever. That means something.
Don't pretend there aren't unqualified people getting jobs because they very clearly are, men and women. It isn't about what you know, how much experience you have, or how good of a coach you are. Getting a job in this industry, especially at the highest levels, is all about who you know. But to say people shouldn't be upset/frustrated when someone with very little coaching experience gets a job, especially when it appears like the hire was at least partly motivated by checking a specific box for HR, is completely absurd. People put a ton of effort into breaking into this profession and moving up the ranks, and when someone with minimal coaching experience is hired for this kind of position, it is demoralizing.
