Bruh, you're talking about full grown men and age group awards. Where do they rank in the world with their age peers? The fascination here with HS and College running is hilarious (all while making fun of age groupers for older people).
You sound like a bitter athlete who never made it college. I hope your day gets better
Uh idk about that

Nope, just a guy that sees the irony of people making fun of "age groupers" while being infatuated with "age groupers."
Agreed, it is far from anything special for Mantz to be doing well in college competitions. The BYU "Junior" is a full grown man born in 1996. With no XC eligibility being used this year, we can probably expect him to win Nationals in cross in two years as a 26 year old. Why would you celebrate a 26 y/o runner beating bunch of 18-22 year olds. Big effing deal. He should be embarrassed.

Here's an idea. The Lets Run Poster Society of Collegiate Athletics where we recognize TRUE national champions.
Only athletes competing who fall in the age range of 18-22 count. And we raise funds to recognize these athletes for their national champion worthy performance with a society backed certificate and trophy.
Let's look back as 2019.
NCAA XC Championships November 23, 2019
1. Edwin Kurgat - Failed to find any iaaf age data. However he enrolled in a U.S. university in fall of 2016. He has a sister who enrolled in U.S. university in fall of 2014, according to iaaf she was born Apr 1993. If we assume his sister is older, and he enrolled two years later - we can estimate his birthdate somewhere around 1995, so 23-24 years old. Sorry buddy.
2. Joe Klecker - birthdate Nov 16th 1996 (23 and a week). Sorry Joe, close.. but you missed the cutoff.
3. Connor Mantz - 22 years old. There's our national champion folks.
NCAA 10k 2019
1. Clayton Young - 25
2. Gilbert Kegan - 24
3. Connor McMillan - 23
4. Connor Mantz - 22 National Champion
In 2019 Mantz was a "Big effing deal" and 2x age worthy national champion.
In 2020, well, he should be embarrassed.
Got it, makes total sense. Good call man, I'm with you all the way.
My bad on the spelling.

How is grampa mantz even in "college" at all? This dude will take over ten years to get a "degree" from the notoriously simple byu. What an embarassment.

What an embarassment.Sounds like someone is a bit butt hurt because they couldn't academically qualify to get accepted to BYU. A couple of my kids friends couldn't get into BYU despite strong ACT's, SAT's, and 3.5 GPS's. They just went and applied to the University of Washington and got accepted. Although I would never want to attend the school, academically it is listed as very good.
If you limit the NCAA to just student-athletes aged 18-22 years old, that would mean no more redshirt year. That might be ok. Might as well get rid of the "medical" redshirt as well.
I don’t care personally, but for fairness I’m not sure why they wouldn’t make it so you can’t turn 25 in the calendar year of when you compete. Allows for the redshirt, easy to enforce, and restricts some of the more egregious age stuff.

3.5 gpa's????????? Wow, that's amazing, absolutely incredible man!!!!!!!! I go there and had a 4.0+++, maybe that's how I got in, eh?
Don't forget Clayson Shumway from BYU. He was only 5-seconds behind Mantz in that inter squad meet according to strava. I whish BYU would post results of that race. BYU could have a very serious 1, 2, 3 punch from Clinger, Mantz, and Shumway. Shumway was a previous All American in xc finishing 32 in 2018. Shumway was injured in 2019.

I guess if your a current student, you didn't misspeak. I doubt it though since you rag on the school and call it "notoriously simple".
