Others in the running community drew attention to this, and now it appears his Twitter has been deactivated.
White moderates have always talked the way Nick Symmonds talks. Anytime outspoken blacks and white radicals have been outspoken on racial issues, white moderates have always said: I understand what you are trying to achieve. I understand some of your goals, but your tactics are offensive.
Free blacks and white radicals in 1840s known as Abolitionists offended both conservative whites and moderate whites.
Once U.S. Civil War started, since white southerners planned their attacks and at the start of U.S. Civil War, white southerners were well fed and had plenty of supplies, so-called Confederates were doing well in early fighting. White moderates, 1861 & 1862 encouraged Abe Lincoln to cut a deal and allow white southerners to maintain slavery. White moderates in 1861 said: I agree with the goals of Abolitionists, but white radicals and free blacks are going about it in a too aggressive manner. Now is not the time for blacks to be free.
1960, one hundred years after U.S. Civil War began, white moderates said: I understand the goals of blacks & white civil rights protesters, but now is not the time for marches and boycotts. It is not fair to attempt to disrupt the social order.
Note: Some laws were passed to by U.S. federal government from 1964 to 1970s to bring blacks closer to equality.
Many policies/laws for mid-to-late 1960s were reversed in 1970s & 1980s under Nixon, Ford, Carter & Reagan era.
Blacks and radical whites are in the streets again in 2020. Nick Symmonds is a typical white moderate. Nick Symmonds sound nearly exactly the way white moderates talked in 1960, during Jim Crow era.
