Will it happen or are we going to have to get our only marathon joy from C grade marathons like CIM?

Don’t bet on it. Lori Lightfoot will make sure nobody comes out of their house until next January.
Monumental has better odds than Chicago or CIM.
Indiana
Illinois
California
Chicago will be cancelled. Mark my words.
Of course it will get canceled.

Get real. A 40,000 person marathon isn't happening and everyone knows it.
Fukuoka will happen. There's that to look forward to.

Wow, really going out on a limb there, eh? Mark my words? You must have scored really high on the PSAT, eh?
It's cancelled. They just haven't announced it yet.
I love the Chicago Marathon; had run it in 2006 and 2011; and was looking forward to running it this year pre-coronavirus. Even in the EXTREMELY unlikely event it is not cancelled, I don't want to be around 40,000 runners and who knows how many spectators in this age of Covid 19. Also consider the expo and travel. NYC cancelling yesterday I think will put the kibosh on chances of Chicago going on.
I think CIM has a decent shot at happening. Yes it's California, but it is northern California very different than southern California. Plus it isn't has big has Chicago. CIM has like what ~8k runners.
No way this event happens this year.
No, Valencia is going to be THE marathon of 2020. It’s in early December, in a city that’s already coming out of lockdown. It’s a very fast world-class course and it’s going to attract all the talent from all the other cancelled marathons.
Cap the field to 100 women and 100 men, elites only. It would obviously be stacked. The only problem is funding the field appearance fees
Why would a marathon pay appearance fees if there are no or very few other choices for runners? You might not get the top 100 elites, but you'd still be able to fill a field with 100 quality runners
As Rojo astutely pointed out, Hamburg will happen.
Other European marathons will happen, and likely London will also.
Chicago will be canceled. With the governor the locals refer to as "PigFat" coupled with the incompetent mayor Lightfoot, Chicago will be canceled. The only reason it's not canceled yet is because Nike is pressuring the Chicago so much, but it will be.
CIM will definitely be canceled. No, uh, way with, uh, uh, Governor Newsom, uh, in charge that uh, this marathon, uh, will happen.

Do you even live here bruh?
Chicago should put out no appearance monies. Make the prize money for like the top 25 with time bonus staggered for everyone under 2:22.
Bruh? Okay middle schooler.
Yes, I do live here. In fact, I'm living here right now.
I'm signed up to run at Manchester, which is the week after London. Pretty sure Manchester will copy whatever London does, at the moment they're still hopeful of it going ahead, so who knows? Berlin being cancelled makes me less certain, but Hamburg going ahead gives me hope.
