There were no lockdowns or fearmongering in the year 2018.
We have to ask ourselves if this pandemic has been overblown. After herd immunity and vaccines, COVID-19 might go away in the near future.
Go look at excess death figures, thanks.
So we could continue this lockdown because several governers moved sick people with a novel virus into nursing homes and infected the most vulnerable portion of the population. If we pull the nursing home deaths out of the COVID death count, which we absolutely should, there are about 50-60K COVID deaths and the majority of those had a comorbidity.
How about this. We take reasonable measures to protect the very elderly and those with severly compromised immune systems. Those of you who are morbidly obese and have destroyed your immune system through bad choices and laziness, sorry, be this a lesson that behavior is not ok. But we don't tank our economy, destroy businesses, have sky-high unemployment and put off "non-essential" medical care for the rest of us because we made some bad decisions at the start of this. At this point, the shutdowns and fear of returning to normal life are far more damaging than the virus.
Since all out incompetent leaders refuse to admit they overreacted, they just keep moving the goalpost and will until the public is completely fed up with this.
So, you have a nursing home with a confirmed COVID 19 outbreak. Lots of people come down with pneumonia and die. The nursing home doesn't test everyone and just presumes that everyone who got pneumonia had COVID 19. While this is bad science, it is certainly not evidence that the COVID 19 deaths were BS. It is really like having e coli food poisoning at a nursing home. A bunch of residents get severe diarrhea and die. They only test a few for e coli and presume that the rest had it. What are the odds that everyone at a nursing home suddenly came down with diarrhea from something other than e coli? Same thing with pneumonia. What are the odds that everyone at these nursing homes suddenly came down with it during an outbreak of a highly contagious virus? Sure, maybe a few got it from something else. But there were loads of nursing homes around the world where they tested everyone for COVID and found that everyone was dying from it.
Not passing judgement on lockdown vs. not.
it's a lie to pretend that deaths fro COVID are overcounted. When you bring up excess deaths, people just change the subject, as you did.
A few points
1) the economy was destroyed regardless of lockdowns, look at mobility data, restaurant bookings. It turns out people don't like going out in a pandemic, especially a new, poorly understood one
2) Sweden took reasonable measures to protect the elderly and ended up exactly where everyone else is, if not worse, for both deaths and economic damage
You are arguing for a non-existent point. The picture you are painting simply doesn't exist -- it's not even wrong, as some might say.
It's funny that your argument still comes down to: "Sorry grandma, you're gonna have to die for the economy" like some kind of Occupy Democrats meme from early April.
You've learned nothing since then, probably because you spend too much time on LRC.
You should probably check this out. The CDC tracks excess deaths. All cause mortality. Bodies are piling up in the US at a massive rate. This table is nice because you can see 2018 which had the worst influenza epidemic since the 60s. COVID is far worse. And it's just getting started.

Does anyone else track excess deaths?
Why do people continue to insist we believe an organization whose corruption is insultingly transparent? Everyone here knows who they are funded by, is this a consideration we should just ignore?
Probably one of the thousands of individuals that voted for that gorilla for president and no I'm not being racist lol.
Despite the lockdown people weren't moving?! Wtf are you talking about?! No sh!t when the news was playing this up like the plague. Saying over 2 million could did snd doctors would have to save the women an kids first.

Data from other countries confirm similar levels of excess deaths are happening there too. So even if you don’t have faith in the CDC about this, there is plenty of reason to believe it’s true based on the world’s data.

Lol big mad alert.
Glad we agree government lockdowns were not the main reason for the economic collapse. The govt not being prepared for a pandemic was!

Other countries confirm the data of a corrupt organization.
It seems that few here realize the extent to which the developed world is intertwined. This became a primary goal after that oil scare in the 70s. Since, it has become a lasting strategy facilitated by world bank and IMF.
These covid zealots often remark jokingly “its a global conspiracy!”.
This can be interpreted a few ways:
1. Ignorance. They have no comprehension for geopolitics.
2. Sub conscious admission.
3. Ignorance.
Let’s say two people in a nursing get sick with confirmed Covid19. The next couple of weeks 10 others residents develop similar symptoms and three of them die ? They are not tested because of shortage of test in the early phase of the pandemic.
Is it far-fetched to attribute these three deaths to Covid 19 ? Of course not.
In Belgium, excess deaths in April correlated very well with the total number of Covid deaths (both PCR confirmed and suspected).
