Trying to aggregate what schools have all cancelled their programs. So far we have:
1. Akron
2. Brown
Who else are we missing?

Anyone surprised no D3's are on the list? Seems like those programs might be the first shoe to drop...

Ran D3, don't think they'll be affected too much. From what I've gathered is that D3 and D1 budgets are structured very differently. My schools track and XC program relied heavily on donations from Alumni and we participated in fundraising events to be able to travel. We had to buy all of our own gear, we barely got $ for meals at meets, and we doubled up in beds when we did travel.
Some of my buddies who ran D1 kept all their gear, got $150 daily on weekend trips, and did not have to share beds when they travelled. I didn't really care or was angry that we didn't get that treatment. My program was very frugal and it's probably good we were.
I agree with Mr. OAR.
My son's D3 team is somewhat different in that they don't do any fundraising, but the college has a rather large endowment. They are given per diem's (or the coach pays for all food) during local trips/meets and the preseason camp, they have at least one or two trips per year where they need to fly to a different region for a meet (all expenses completely paid for by the school), and they may have one or two pieces of gear they get to keep. They basically just pay for their own shoes.
Like many D3's, his college doesn't depend on the football revenue to float the rest of their sports. All sports "lose" money every year and are funded by the college since it is a valued part of the undergraduate experience. I can see a little belt-tightening because of lost revenue from the spring term (housing and food was refunded to all students), but they should continue all their sports as long as the sports are able to come fall.
Agreed, I ran D3. They basically give you $100 a season for shoes, no scholarships, and let you run around in a field. It's pretty much free.
Still costs associated w coaches, travel, etc.
DIII’s NEED their men’s track/XC programs because they are HUGE money makers for the school. Every tuition paying athlete is another tuition paying student that likely wouldn’t have gone to that school. These schools depend on these programs for increased enrollment and as other posters have pointed out, they don’t have to spend much per athlete. You’re going to see a lot of former DI college coaches and lower end “DI athletes” wish they had gone DIII over the next month or so...
wow, so per this link, a few more cancellations:
6.) Holy Family College (NAIA) - TF/XC (Mens & Womens)
7.) MacMurray - XC (Mens & Womens)
8.) Mercyhurst North East - XC (Mens & Womens)
9.) Notre Dame de Namur - XC/TF (Mens & Womens)
10.) Rollins - XC (Mens & Womens)
11.) Urbana - XC (Mens & Womens)
I don't know if this matters, but some of the schools on this list may have closed completely (they didn't just discontinue athletics). The Holy Family College that is listed above is one college that is closing completely.
Good point on that. Id expect a lot of colleges to fold completely.
Notre Dame de Namur is also closing so not just sports.

MacMurray same.
No. Most d3s need athletics for enrollment reasons and spend relatively little- so the return on investment is worthwhile. D3s, especially small privates, will be the last to go, until/unless individual institutions are truly on the brink of collapse.
I was d1 athlete whose program was cut (to funnel money into football/basketball of course). Now a d3 coach, I feel very lucky to have found my way to this level.
Appears that Urbana also closed. Didnt realize they were D2.
Since Brown lost their men's teams, no DI teams announced cuts to men's xc or track teams? Are we out of the woods yet?
Not by a longshot! If NCAA cancels football because of COVID spikes, then a bloodbath will commence.
UConn is currently fighting to keep their program alive.

So not out of the woods by any means. Some departments are still just evaluating their options.
