New cases have continued to grow in the younger age groups and shrink in the older and more vulnerable age groups.
Prior to 6/7, 16% of cases were from 70+ age group. Since 6/7, they have only accounted for 6% of new cases.
It is too early to conclude that there is a big demographic shift going on. Must of the shift in demographics can be attributed to opening up testing to all ages. In March and most of April, younger people were not getting tested unless they were really sick, but people over 60 were getting tested if they were exposed to a positive or started feeling some symptoms.
It may be that the current surge is due to young people going to bars and restaurants and we may end up with a shift in demographics, but that also assumes that parents and older adults are isolating themselves at much higher rates and staying away from infected young people. Other than nursing homes making big improvements in their COVID 19 measures, I am not so sure that people over the age of 50 are doing that good of a job social distancing in the states that are seeing spikes.
